Here’s my first attempt. It’s simple one, but I’ll try something a bit more complex, with Vikings, ships, and the bridge in it, etc, when I get the time. Obviously, this is not the full sized version. It is actually just a re-jigged sig banner.

Good groundwork there. A bit more complex would be good but a great start!

I like that.... it is different. It doesn't scream RL, but it is quite nice. Nice effort mate.

I'd say that is a cracking start mate. I really like the font and text effect.
Looking forward to seeing v0.2 if you're looking to include the stuff above too.

With me not being a Widnes fan i was limited to photos, its just what i could scrape together from google. You would obviously have your own wording, thats just an example.

That's very good indeed and has caused me to put on hold any such plans I might have had to create one of my own. I'm sure mine wouldn't have made it into The Gallery on Hartbeat.

What program did you use if you don't mind me asking and do you use one of those fancy electronic pens to draw around images to lift them off their background?

Also do you know of any fancy way of shrinking an images file size without it having too much of a detrimental effect on the image quality. Mine was originally 24k and looked sharp but is now 19k and looks pants?

Chris, i use Corel Paintshop Pro XI. Their are a couple of newer versions of it, that version suits me fine.

You can resize images within that software above, i'm far from being an expert with graphics, if i can do something thats half reasonable then believe i'm sure anyone can with practice.

It warms me inside to know that people still remember the three eyed fish!

I like that. My only issue with it is that it is a bit too retro. I think we should be looking at something that looks to the future and a new era in Super League, rather than dwelling on the past. That’s why I didn’t put any old players or trophies in mine. I’d happily put some of our SL players in any new sig/banner, when the time comes, but we don’t really have any yet and we don’t yet have a new SL kit. That’s why I think it’s worth going in a different direction to using a collection of old photos.

Thats fair enough Pepe, its your fans forum at the end of the day and you should get to say what images go on a forum banner. I went for modern with Mark Smith lifting the Northern Rail trophy, Jonathon Davies and Tony Myler from your glory years and some retro images of your glory years in the early days.

It would be ideal if it was one of your own fans that did the banner with it being your own fans forum as its a better buzz for you that way, at least you have a few ideas now for a layout and style etc.

Mark Smith lifting the Northern Rail trophy may be modern, but its only relevance to super league is the fact that it ticked the box which allowed us to put in a SL bid. Other than that, it is as much the past as Jonathan Davies. At the end of the day, the banner we now have has Alan Tait on it, and probably needs updating for that reason.

I’m not having a go here, its nice work, and would make a brilliant sig for someone.


I’m not really too bothered whether the new banner is done by a Widnes fan or not, as long as it’s a good one. Some people, on here, may love your retro banner and wish to see it at the top of our forum. I’d like to see what you could do with a more 2012 Widnes Vikings in SL theme.

I like that. The only thing I'd say is maybe 'We're' rather than 'I'm'.

Yeah thats true, only used 'I'm' because i was basing it on the song out at the moment by Diddy Dirty Money. Makes sense to use we're though.
