confirmed.. www.nwemail.co.uk/raiders/raider ... th=raiders
BARROW Raiders have pulled off a massive transfer coup by signing England international Jamie Rooney from Wakefield.
Jamie RooneyThe 29-year-old half-back has signed a deal at Craven Park until the end of the season after Barrow chairman Des Johnston convinced Wildcats boss John Kear to let him go.
Rooney will go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s Championship clash with Toulouse, his arrival coming at the perfect time for Barrow with Liam Campbell out for the season with a broken collarbone and Darren Holt limping off with a knee injury in the defeat at Batley on Sunday.
It also comes a day after Barrow sacked loose forward Andy Brocklehurst for a serious breach of club discipline.
Rooney, who was unveiled at Craven Park this afternoon, said: “I spoke to Des over the phone and he sold the club really well. He has got big ambitions for the club and I want to be part of that.
“Hopefully I can help Barrow win the league this year

Good signing i say if he can stay on the pitch.Prefer thackeray anyday as younger and will get better. But i would not complain signing rooney.Anyway i confident with our squad and a pack dominating is more imperative.

| Good signing but.....................he appears to have gone of the boil in the last year after showing promise a couple of years back. Kear wouldnt have parted with him if he thought he had a future at Wakey.

| The way Thacks has improved recently, Barrow are welcome to him. Thackerey (sp?) has many years of rugby ahead of him and if he continues putting in the sort of performance that he did against 'fax then I'd have him him over Rooney any day of the week.
Those insane dummies he threw for his hat trick over 'fax were pure class.
It is however good to see Barrow mean business, this league will only get better and tougher over the next few seasons.

| Nah Vikingman, I am pretty certain it was 20k, could be wrong though. Remember thinking we had missed a trick though at the time.

Wasn't 10k the figure we refused to pay for Tommy Gallagher after we had him on loan the 1st time? Then he ended up at Toulouse and played a blinder against us in the CC quarters?
As for Rooney, very good signing, but I still think Barrow are in a weaker position than if they had Holt, Campbell and Brocklehurst.
