Championship Clubs receive the green light to apply for a Super League licence
The RFL have confirmed today that application forms for Super League Licences have been sent to those Championship clubs that have fulfilled the on-field minimum criteria. Halifax, Featherstone, Batley, Barrow and Widnes have all received their applications, having been either Co-operative Championship Grand Finalists or winners of the Northern Rail Cup in 2009 or 2010. The Clubs now have until 3 December 2010 to submit their applications to the RFL for assessment.
“With the Co-operative Championship developing into such a vibrant competition in its own right, we expect a number of strong submissions from clubs who have aspirations of joining the Super League,” explained the RFL Compliance Manager Blake Solly. “The licence process is a central factor in ensuring Super League reaches its aim of being the best elite Rugby League competition in the world and the response so far from those clubs eligible to apply has been exciting.”
In order for a Championship club’s application to proceed to assessment by the RFL, an applicant must meet the Championship club minimum criteria. These minimum criteria are

| I see Matt Calland has taken a pay cut for next year.Seems that if Fax did not win the Grand Final, they be in the red now. 
To be honest Fax could be weaker next season, as will have to spend on a Youth set up.I feel confident we will be a strong team next year. |

According to that criteria, they've sent out application forms when in reality only Widnes are eligible to apply even going down to just point B. Don't forget the changes to the by-laws that foreign clubs can also be invited to apply even if they don't satisfy on-field criteria. Still, if there is any substance in the criteria etc then you're deservedly a shoe-in.

This is not true Matt and has been confirmed numerous times over the last 2/3 months. Toulouse cannot apply and have no desire to. |

There was an 'invite' criteria but it's not in this statement that directly refers too the Guranteed Championship place! I feel Toulouse maybe invited to apply for the 'july bids'!

Just remember to take everything the RFL says with a huge pinch of salt - I think the last 'round' of applications should have taught us that. |

Exactly my thoughts. Everyone thinks we're a shoe in, everyone thinks the criteria were somehow designed to suit us even though they are based on fundamental requirements for any successful club - crowds, finances etc and areas we are ahead in.
Everyone thinks that, yet I still wont believe we are a shoe in. I simply don't trust the RFL. |
