| I see from the Hysterics in Widnes board that Varkulis is facing a charge for his tackle on Campbell.
I think it was rightly put on report and rightly up in front of the panel. But I hope they then view the manner in which Varks reacted when he realised the position he had the player in.
He put the player down like a sleeping baby being put back in his pram. This made the feigning of injury by Campbell an absolute disgrace. It was intended to get Varks sent off and nothing more.
The widnes crowd are a decent bunch when it comes to recognising a player being genuinely injured and I'm pleased to say that the occasions of a player faking it have been few and far between. I hope this doesn't start to creep into the game.
Campbell was roundly booed for his play-acting and I would hope that this booing continues everytime he touches the ball in opposition against Widnes. Disgusting little !!!!!

| Feigning injury? Don't be silly. Varkulis didn't lower him to the ground like 'a little baby', he dumped him on his head. It wouldn't have looked out of place in the WWF!
And please stop being so one-eyed. If the tackle had been committed on a Widnes player, the mass of baying idiots ('FORWARD! OFFSIDE!'....repeat ever play for added Do not use language like this again! effect)that make up some of your home crowd would have been demanding blood.
Do you seriously believe a Widnes player would have jumped straight back to his feet from an incident like that? You're living in a dreamworld surrounded by pink elephants made from candy floss if you do.
Jim, you're welcome to post here, you always have been, but don't start using terms like that. You know better than that.
Chris.
And lets keep this topic to the subject at hand and not start a flame war about each others fans, it's pointless as we've never had problems with each other.

| Never in a million years...
You obviously weren't at the game or were one of the fans turned round trying to incite the home crowd.
Varks never dropped him... he was placed back on the ground. It was a disgusting act of fraudulence from Campbell and it showed when he sprung to his feet two minutes later. The Widnes fans were rightly in uproar about it.
As I said in my earlier post... our fans are excellent at recognising a player with a genuine injury and this was no such thing. The tackle could have been bad and I don't condone that, but any injury to the player was averted by the actions of Varkulis.
As for living in a dreamworld...it seems like that reading your 'official' match reports. Never have I read so much cock and bull in all my life. According to your website Batley have never lost a game fairly. Instead every loss can be laid at the door of the referee or the deception of the opposition. You are typical of this mindset.

You're a prat.
I've never once read a biased match report on our website, and I'd like you to point out a report to me that says we lost a game unfairly. The guy that writes them is one of the best match writers on the internet in terms of fair reporting. Unlike some outfits in this league, we don't have a problem with 'losing', which comes from not having a vastly over-inflated opinion of our status as a club.
As for Widnes fans being 'excellent at recognising a player with a genuine injury', well done to one and all of you. Its must be a bit like Saints fans and their superb reading of the foward-pass and offside laws in our sport.
Also, thank you to Mr.Varkulis and his act of wonderful of sportsmanship in 'placing' our player on the ground. How kind. I'm surprised he didn't dash into the changing room and bring Campbell out a nice cup of Earl Grey in a lovely hand-decorated china cup to drink whilst he was receiving treatment, such is the obvious saintly nature of the fellow.
If one of our players had done to one of your players what Varkulis did to Campbell, you'd have been crowing for a red card, don't even attempt to deny it.

As I said before you obviously weren't watching at the time because you simply don't have a clue...
Batley fans are beginning to become renowned for having a fairly large chip on their shoulder.
Was the tackle bad?? yes it was.. Varkulis lifted the player into a dangerous position... not sure where anyone has claimed that didn't happen? Once Varks realised what he had done he shifted position and placed the lad down on his back.

As I said before you were probably too busy trying to incite the home support by turning around and gesturing like an idiot. That's why you go to these games then fair enough. It was an exciting day and you probably had a few beers. The fact that we spoke to some exuberant fans coming out of the ground and talked about the same incident (We all agreed it had the potential to hurt the player but Varkulis had acted well) gives me some faith that not all Batley fans are like you or read too much into the match reports you post on the official site.

Ahhh. So from one match report you are able to deduce that virtually every match report on our website blames the referee/officials for our defeats. I'm glad that you see fit to make such sweeping generalisations.
You claim to have spoken to some 'exuberant' fans on the way out the ground who agreed completely with your assessment of Varkulis' wonderful sportsmanship. Well, I spoke to a couple of 'exuberant' Widnes fans on the way out the ground who agreed with me that Varkulis should have been red-carded. Touche. Its always a good idea to make up incidents to support your point.
As for Batley's growing reputation for having fans with a chip on their shoulder, thats like saying Widnes fans DON'T have a chip on their shoulder. Laughable.
Would you like me to admit that I was one of the fans who turned round to incite the home crowd? Actually, I was sat pretty close the back of the stand. I had to put up with a bunch of mutants in black and white replica kits who kept turning round to incite the fellow away fans I was sat with whenever there was a controversial moment.
And what was the point in posting a link to ANOTHER Widnes forum, which included some further posts from yourself on this incident? Were you attempting to demonstrate that other fans....hang on, other WIDNES fans!.....agreed with you that Campbell was feigning injury after being dumped on his head? Well I never, fans of one club united in their agreement that they've been wronged.

| The cheating git tried to get Varks sent off by faking injury, then as soon as the ref blew his whistle he jumped up like a spring chicken.
Campbell should be charged for his disgraceful acting show.

Yet another injury expert. I suppose you know exactly how Mr.Campbell felt after being dumped, sorry...placed , on his head.

Little Pepe went to nursery school one day wearing his Widnes hat. His teacher asked him why he was a Widnes fan. He said, “Because my parents are.” His teacher said, “That’s not good. What would you do if your parents were drug dealers and hookers?” He replied, “Well then I would be a Warrington fan.”

I agree, Chris. He did lift Campbell’s legs way above the horizontal and probably should’ve placed him straight back down but, what made it look worse, is he decided to carry him 5 meters back before putting him down. He righted him and forced him down to the ground legs first, or at least in a horizontal position. There didn’t look to be anything that would cause injury. He was definitely not placed on his is head – no way!
Whilst it is impossible to suggest he was play-acting for sure, from his reactions it did look very suspicious. As soon as the ref put varks on report, he bounced straight back up and jumped right back into the action showing no ill effects at all. If you’re as stunned as Campbell appeared to be, it takes a few minutes to shake it off, where you spend a bit of time out of the action. You see it every week on Sky Sports.
In my opinion Campbell was milking the situation. If I thought otherwise I’d say so.

| The WWN reports Paul Cullen saying that he was furious with the tackle and that if the RFL dont ban Varkulis then the club will deal with the matter internally.

No-ones been made to look a fool. And no amount of silly 'emoticons' mean that I'VE been made to look a fool.
As for the match reports ; you claimed our club website match reports made out that EVERY Batley defeat was down to the performance of the referee/officials/. You actually only found one match report that could be construed as being biased in nature, and failed to produce any other that revealed this supposedly seeping ooze of one-eyedness. Your sweeping generalisations make you look foolish. Where are these other hugely biased match reports?
I am biased towards the efforts of my club and players like any other supporter. You show bias in the fact that you believe Varkulis is clearly in the right and should go unpunished for his saintly actions, and that Campbell was feigning injury. If you are accusing anyone of being biased, then don't go to lengths to indirectly show what a hypocrite you are.
Oh, and you also accused Batley fans of having a chip on our shoulder and inciting the poor old Widnes fans during Sunday's game. I'll leave you to discuss the nasty people of Batley on your own forum. Hypocracy yet again.
Just to remind you again, a long line of emoticons doesn't make you look big or clever, or help to win an argument. In fact its the action of someone with a very limited brain capacity.

I think, if Varks had put him straight back down, there wouldn’t have been a problem, perhaps just a penalty. But in carrying him up field upside down before putting him down, he has made a rod for his own back.
Campbell did seem to be milking it though.
We used to have an Aussie forward when we where in SL, whose name escapes me, that used to play the old soldier far more often than I liked to see. He was a decent player, but really used to me off at times.

| I was very close to it - He did not drop him on his head, however he put the Batley player down on his back (not as gently as mentioned above tho!) and, I presume, would have winded him a bit. I agree the Batley player milked it and wasn't injured at all. The reason I believe he wasn't sent off was because at no point did Varkulis put his hand between the legs and actually perform a lift. He tackled the Batley player around the waist from the top (the Batley chap was running in with his head down) and the Batley player almost appeared to push up with his legs and put himself in the upside down position. Varks seemed more like "what just happened, what do I do now?" rather than performing a malicious tackle. Hence the delay whilst he decided how to put him down.
I don't believe it warrants a ban, although it's right the RFL look at it.
