Well folks looks like there is next to 0 chance of it happening which is great news. I spoke to one of the contractors today who was supposed to be in charge of foundations, digging etc.. He said, " there int a cat in ells chance mate". Apparently a geologist said also that the ground isnt ideally suitable either even though the large ski slope etc is next to it. NOT ONE hole has been made even though wilkinson said there preperations were halted due to ancient ruins or fossils or whatever was found in the soil.

I don't think they claimed that the build stopped due to the archeological dig... that took place and whilst it found some artefacts these were sufficiently a distance from the main site that it would not interfere.. I think they may have been near one of the access roads..

the build stalled due to a lack of funding and a change of plan on design.. the loss of the hotel, the inadequate take up of the retail units and finally the news that the college is unlikely to receive the necessary funding...

Even if the ground is unsuitable... works can be carried out I'm sure to remedy it.

It's a kick in the teeth though for the Salford fans if the stadium doesn't go ahead but I won't lose any sleep for those officials at the club who rubbished our SL application because of our financial troubles only to say look what we offer,new iconic stadium and vast crowd potential from the huge Salford/Manchester conurbation.

Yes. I feel sorry for the fans, but the club? No chance.

Fact of the matter is they're just a small club in a large catchment area that struggle to attract more than 4000 fans week in week out.

You really need a line to the MD of Peel Holdings PLC. He is the man who matters and he has conveyed to Mr Wilkinson that the Stadium will be built on time. It is a clause in Peels agreement with Salford Council that the Stadium is completed before the Barton Docks scheme (also for Peel) goes ahead.

Very sad to see so much bitterness with Salford. Unnecessary. If its all to do with the Franchises then there will be room enough for both clubs next time.
