| They get a bashing all too often but we've had some belters over the years... Let's keep it to the last 10 years, but whose worthy of a mention and impressed you.
For me I thought Relfy and Carter were superb and Troy Stone too. I'm going to give special mention though to Jules O'Neil in his first stint with us. I still remember those devilishly spinning up and under bombs and the panic on the faces of the opposition underneath them.

| Carter was absolute class, we had some good backs in the side whilst he was with us but they were to far behind his play making, I reckon if we had had better backs at that time we would not have lost our place to Catalan and would still be in SL.
Relfy, tough hombre, I can't remember the player or the team, but he chased a centre/winger back the length of the field to try and stop a try. He didn't, but the commitment he showed was awesome and the back was giving him verbals as he ran in, I thought Relfy was going to kill him!!
Jules, you have said it all Chris.
There are loads of others, but 1 that sticks in my mind is Rod Howe (sorry it is outside the 10 years).
A long time before SL, it may even have been the year before or after we got to the Challenge Cup last time.
Rod and Jon (can't recall his second name) were signed for last the 8 or 9 games of the season.
They were both tough as they come but Rod Howe was something else, I went to Halifax, the Shay in those days and couldn't believe the man, you hear it all the time on Sky, he put his body on the line they have no idea!!!

Grieve.
Howe was a big hitter.
Scarts has to be the best Aussie player over the last 10.
Relf was probably my favourite.

| Carter played 100% every game, so for effort he's up there. Skill wise there has been better players than him. He was excellent for us but I wouldn't say he has been the best Aussie over the last 10 years. I'd certainly put Willie Peters above him as a better player.
Frame, Jules, and Stone were very good signings, but Shane Millard for me was far away the best player out of the imports.

| When we first got into Super League we had some real grafting Aussies who set the tone for that year, the likes of Relfy/Stone/Frame/Scarts were all solid professionals who never took a backward step. Just what a promoted club needs IMO. We never had the flash players, that first year and second was built on hard work and graft.
Relfy was my favourite, i also appreciated Frame.

remember when he completely battered dean sampson at the jungle, it was a week or two after sampson had done one of the cheapest shots ever on adrian lamb of wigan. remember talking to stone in the albion on the last day of the season, he was banned after said fight, we asked him was it worth missing was it worth missing what should of been his last game to beat up sampson. his answer yes bought him a pint for that

IIRC John Grieve suffered a serious knee injury - could even have been here at Widnes and didn't play a lot after that. Perth Western Reds is ringing a bell or 2.
Rod Howe played for amongst others Melbourne Storm, Newcastle Knights, Western Reds and NSW. He also played for the full Aussie side. Reknowned as an aggressive defender, I'm sure he also got banned for substance abuse.

| Never really took to Carter as a young lad. But even then, I could appreciate his influence and leadership on the field.
Troy Stone was my favourite player back then.
But Millard was the man. I remember reading in the League Express that he was hanging up his boots to start a bricklaying business after leaving St George, or something. I think Neil Kelly must have read the same article, because he signed for us two weeks later. I always remember the Saturday night game at home to Wigan, I think in 2004, his performance clinched us the win and ultimately helped us stay up.

Yep, Watts in particular for me. I heard an interesting tale at the time. Didn't they come in under Endaflopp?
Well anyway, I knew one of the bargirls at the Wids which is where the team were training at the time. Kerr and Watts turned up at 9 as told and basically had to sit in their car for the next 45 mins as the rest of the team arrived. Then when training finished the lads carried on by themselves for another hour because they were so amazed how light it was.
Remember Justin 'Justified' Murphy.. he impressed me in his short time whilst he was here... not least because of the number of times he could spew during a match.
