| Just been having a scan through some of the posts on the TIW board and im amazed at the mass panic created by some people. The main points being a few are leaving and they're worried that nobody is coming in and the lack of noise from the club. Pickers and Fordy already signed and the nucleus of a very good squad has already been kept and more will be announced. Coyle is still involved with Oldham and we have ANOTHER that is also involved in a capacity to be announced. Do we really think that Steve O'connor would settle for a weak squad? if there's one thing that he will have learned is that Widnes speccies wont settle for second best and we demand to win every game. The noises came out early with mc cormack and looked what happened with that situation after just one game. In his own words 'we need to stop others from getting to the final so we have the best possible chance of a franchise'. I realise that we have fallen on our backsides this year but with the lack of consistancy from certain players eg Morrison/Fletch/Toa in terms of injuries then maybe that's one of the reasons why they're getting rid? Toa is cheap and very experienced and is class when he plays so that's the reason he's staying.
We will have a brilliant squad for next year. this season hasnt even finished yet!!!!!!!

I'm sure we will have a great squad next season, VM.
I don't think people are panicking as such. The noises coming out of the club do seem a little complacent though, with lots of talk about the box being ticked and playing a lot of kids to tick another box.
At the end of the day we are losing some of our best players, and have only brought in one player which we didn't have this season, so far. There is the rumour about Coyle but, even if that's true, it hardly makes the squad look stronger than this season. A season were we have finished in 4th place and was knocked out of the play-offs by Fev and could be described as inconsistent at best. Our pack, at this moment, is one of the weakest in the Championship. Not only do we need to replace the likes of Duffy, Fletcher and Morrison, but we need to replace them with even better players. If we don't do that we will stand still or go backwards.
Ticking boxes is all well and good, but we mustn't loose sight of what important; trying to win every competition in this league no matter which ticks you get. Because we aren't announcing signings, it can be a little worrying. Unfortunately, on the TIW board, some people like to polarize a debate about a simple concern and pretend everyone is panicking.
I'd like to hear a bit more from the club about exciting new signings being in the pipeline, even if they aren't naming names, but all we are hearing is about having ticked the f*****g box so we can play youngsters.
Leigh tried that, and look where it got them.

| We need a squad at least as good as this one for the next two years. We need to be comfortable in this league. They wont look kindly on a team hovering above the relegation zone or heaven forbid in the league below.

| The box ticking is annoying but it's a fact that we cant escape from, the club wont be sitting back because they know how important it is to be at the top end of the table. The club need to be in the media for all the right reasons.
As for the signings just you wait folks.

No you weren't! Who told you that? The Administrator? That's why you didn't get in last time - it was too recent in the memory of the RFL. Rightly or wrongly, but i certainly didn't think you'd get in.

Even with the current boss who is as genuine as anyone you will ever meet prepared to hand over half a million as a bond. They only needed to look at his business success to know that he was in it for the long haul. Instead of saying straight away that we wouldnt be considered due to our administration they decided to lead us on a merry dance only to crap on us.
No need for what they did.

To be fair - you can't go saying "well, we'll consider your application but really, you've no chance". It has to be seen to be a considered verdict. They'll be "mulling over" Halifax's application in 2012. What's the point? It'll be a no. A process has to be gone through - no matter how pointless it may seem.

Would it not be easier to just say if you have been in administration in the last 3 years then dont bother applying. Why can they not do that Mr Accountant dude.

I can't answer that. Perhaps, as this was the first stab at this franchising lark they got caught up in the process. I dunno mate.
As for the next time - i suppose Mr Dalton's words ring as true as any statement.

So long as you do this - it'll be OK.

| Although I agree we definately need some experienced players, preferably with Super League experience, I think it is about time we gave our youngsters a proper run out. We spend a fortune on youth development yet we only play them if we are desperate. Nash and Sidlow now play for Salford but would they have left if we had given them some game time? Admittely we couldn't have kept Myler as he seems to have turned out to be a little mercinary!
I just feel that with more game time some of the players we have now could really shine but can't get the proper experience playing in the reserves. For the last 2 seasons Warrington have had to play their youth players due to injuries and although they weren't to good to begin they are now and in our league they won't be coming up against as high a quality opposition so should make a good showing as many of them have done during this season.

| At least while they're on about those things, they aren't banging on about how great the sodding Royal Family are, how dangerous immigrants are (in a town mostly made up of the descendants Eastern Europeans and Irish people!) or a couple of football teams none of them actually turn up and watch.

That would happen in an ideal world, but even before Myler had his debut, everyone knew he was one of the top prospects around. My fear is that Danny Hulme apart, no-one seems that excited about any others coming through. The size of Mullally would make you think that he could be a very good forward, but probably a little early yet in his career to be playing week in week out. Early this season, no-one was trying harder than Ostick, yet everyone could see going forward we found it very hard going. Thats not a criticism of Ostick, if he continues his development he may end up being a very good player. The point is though, if we are going to rely on more youngsters next year, we need players who are ready now.
Just as a slightly seperate issue, I've never understood this recent obsession with very young props in the team - just in the past 2 or 3 years we've tried about 7 (Morrison (Mike), Ostick, Kavanagh, Nash, Sidlow, Houghton, Thompson) and next year we are reportedly getting Davies from Wigan. Although there is the saying if you're good enough then you're old enough, I would have thought in the forwards, you need a rough, tough experienced pack, maybe with one or two younger players on the fringes to come in every now and again. Look at Leeds - Leuluai, Peacock, Bailey, Lauitiiti, JJB, Kirke, Sinfield, Buderus and previously they had Ellis. Sure they've got Burgess as well, but the point is that they don't rely on youngster in the pack - when will we learn?
