Dear Widnes R.L.F.C.

It would really please me no end to see more RL clubs revert back to their more tradition names rather than the Sky/Murdoch driven disneyfication of club names. I always thought that Widnes' nickname was 'The Chemics'? I was at the recent Hull FC game, as a neutral I enjoyed the game but the score did not truly reflect the game, 20-39 seemed a bit harsh! One thing that did disappoint me though was the attendance, less 4000. I hope the Sky fee for televising the game was well worth the 2/3 empty stadium. I am reminded of something the late Brian Clough (of Notts Forest FC) once said when football started to be televised, 'The owners of football clubs would play football in empty stadiums, if the price was right!'. Something close to this seems to be happening to RL

Here is couple of ideas to regenerate interest. Get rid of the disneyfied name Vikings go back to Widnes RLFC. Keep Vikings as a nickname if you must but what is wrong with 'The Chemics'? Go back to using the town's Coat-of-Arms as a badge instead of the PR/Marketing manager's wet dream that is being used now.
