Quote: TheUnassumingBadger "After watching tonight's derby between yourselves and Warrington I thought I would offer my two cents worth. I have always took an interest in Widnes as a club since they produced my rugby league idol and for me, the finest British stand off ever to play the game (top marks for guessing whom).
From an attacking perspective, Widnes showed they have the quality to score points, as they have done against the likes of Wigan and London already. Scott Moore was causing problems off the back of a quick play the ball and they have the nous to finish chances.
From a defensive point of view however, things are a little different. The main downfall seems to be the control of the ruck area and the work from markers, a dummy half jumping freely with 2 or 3 runners off him will always cause an issue and that seems to be the root cause of Widnes' problems in defence. For me, the Widnes squad is not filled with poor or naive players and I think the coaching staff have to be held accountable for certain aspects of the disorganisation of the defensive structure in that sense.
With that said, Widnes have shown enough to make me believe they can acquire 5 or 6 wins this year, Bradford at home on Monday could be one of those if they go in with the same attitude they showed in the first 40 minutes tonight.
Many opposing supporters will cast you off as whipping boys this year, the more honest and intelligent among them will see you as a developing side on a learning curve, the more moronic will use it as a distraction from their own insecurities or a comeuppance for the pain you have inflicted on them in your glory days...
For me, you have a sound financial backing, a club steeped in history and a fan base which will only grow with your development into today's top tier of Rugby League.
All the best, and if there is another Tony Myler lurking in that industrial town of yours please do your best to ensure that we all get to marvel at that form of genius once more.'"
