I know its fairly obvious but I think a lot depends on the weather between now and the Oldham game. If it stays dry, it might not be that bad - well playable at least. If it rains/snows anymore then it could turn into a real mudbath.
Didn't Sedgley Park RU play there on Saturday? If so thats 3 games in 3 days in horrible weather conditions - the pitch is never going to be that good when you get that combination of wear and weather.

Sheffield will be there or there abouts this season. The move to Bramhall Lane will do them a massive favour and suit he players they have down to the ground.
