world champs when it wasn't a pre season friendly:

the rules are there and should be stuck to, however I really fail to see why the two divisions have different salary caps given teams in both have access to pretty much the same income streams, name any you can find yourself

[img:24qn1m99]http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b147/DrGomez/Replacementbanner.jpg?t=1284815933[/img:24qn1m99] On thread drift: [quote="tb":24qn1m99]Tough. Conversations develop. It's their nature.[/quote:24qn1m99] Little Pepe went to nursery school one day wearing his Widnes hat. His teacher asked him why he was a Widnes fan. He said, “Because my parents are.” His teacher said, “That’s not good. What would you do if your parents were drug dealers and hookers?” He replied, “Well then I would be a Warrington fan.” [i:24qn1m99]There's a Wooly over there, baggy kecks and feathered hair with a 3 star jumper half way up his back, that’s a fecking Wooly back![/i:24qn1m99] [b:24qn1m99]Oooh-to… Oooh-to-be… Oooh-to-be-a… WOOLY![/b:24qn1m99]:24307.jpg

I may be going against the grain in this thread, but I think Leigh had little choice but to plan for a team playing in the Championship. Especially as next season will be sh/t or bust for several clubs who wish to make a bid. It wasn't clear that they'd go down until the last day, so I do have some sympathy with their position.

Obviously, allowing them a full Championship salary cap in Championship 1 would be wrong, but perhaps some sort of smaller dispensation would be appropriate. Maybe an extra £50k would be enough for them to be able to pay some of their big name players and still have enough to recruit a decent squad?

Don't get me wrong, I do have a lot of sympathy for Leigh. Particularly their long suffering fans. It's just, people are saying they didn't know they would be relegated, which is true, but it was always a possibility. They should have prepared for the possiblity better. It strikes me that they are going to benefit from bad preperation. What if a team at the bottom of the league for most of the season with a mathematical possibility of staying up but little chance did the same? And at what point do you say, let this team have a bit of a leg up they've made a mistake?

I just feel it is Leigh's fault and they shouldn't be able to benefit from it. If they're allowed, they will waltz the league unopposed. We're all fed up of the uneven playing fields we are constantly being presented with in RL and this would be a similar issue for teams in Championship 1. Although having said that, Leigh fans will feel it was an uneven playing field which relegated them in the first place so I wouldn't expect much guilt, nor would I feel the same in their position. Just looking at it as someone who wished them well in their quest to stay up, it feels wrong that a team might get a huge let off just because they have overspent.

We didn't expect the RFL to play for Peachey did we? His arrival caused us problems, no doubt.

kcab sfrawdder Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done But he with a chuckle replied That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried. So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin On his face. If he worried he hid it. He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg

The problem lies with the system that has clubs signing players before the end of the season , and also with a salary cap

If say Widnes had signed up a whole squad of players on 2/3 year deals and they then got relegated , what can you do ?

You are obliged to pay them or you get sued for the money anyway

The other option is only having 1 year contracts and nobody can sign any player until the end of the season ' ie GF day '

Now dont now be surprised if the RFL want clauses putting into Championship contracts stating either a get out if relegated or a reduction in wages if relegated from now on

Is that a good thing for long term development of teams and clubs ?
