| OK I admit it's a major beef with me but right or wrong I expect a reasonable standard, especially from what are now supposed professionals. Come on, it's got worse hasn't it?
I hear all the 'if you're good enough, despite the ref you'll win...etc' and ok fair do's. But what about the marginal games like tonight, or like the numerous ones all season?
Not looking through Black n white specs but I think its generally felt we dont benefit from many refs discretion at all. Like I've said on another post, I ain't got a season pass this year and like tonight was undecided whether to go or not.....then I saw the ref.......... Thanks James......50 quid better off. I love you :p

| Better solutions from people better paid than me who pays 22 quid to watch an idiot in the middle and is getting rather fed up with officials as are a lot of fans from other clubs ( as even someone so 'ref cuddly' as you can't deny). Driving people away from the sport? You bet!!!!!!!!

No need to get mardy with him he has a valid point the standard of refing in this sport is very poor. If a ref had had a game like that in football at any level never mind the top level he wouldent be seen again for a while or ever. And i also get your point in another topic about there is not enough refs to drop him as nobody wants to be a ref. But come on there has to be a ref in one of the lower leagues who is better then him. And i dont think its up to us the fans of our game to think of solutions its the people in charge who should be, after all there the ones trying to get League up there with the likes of Union and Football but who is gonna pay money to go see a sport were you can find a better average standard of refing in the sunday league.

| Cummings isnt proactive enough, hes been in the position long enough to realise the standard is at times, appalling. Yet he is the man putting Child and co in the position they are in. Its time Cummings was kicked out of the game, he was also bad enough as a ref but its time for a new face in the position. Far too many officials are in the comfort zone and when that happens you stand for coal breaking over your head.

Well the RFL are fast tracking players for future coaching roles why not fast track players for refs, players with say 3-4 years playing left in them could start with the accademy sides 16s, 18s, then reserve grade, national leagues and finally superleague. This might not be perfect in your eyes but it would certainly give a bigger pool to find 7 good officials from each week.

Spot on. Cummings has well outstayed his welcome by about 2 seasons. He has had lots of money thrown at him with full time referees etc. and has failed to increase the standard discernibly. Child is without a doubt the biggest embarrassment of Cummings' tenure. He's not a good touch judge either.
I don't have an "everything is better in Aus" mindset but in this case I would get rid of Cummings and replace him with someone qualified from down under. Things were better under McAllum and that was when things were part time. If we're going to fast track younger guys/ex players etc. then far better to do that under the wing of a controller who knows what he is doing and not a failed has been like Cummings.

Some good points made. I'd like to see us go down the two ref system in SL eventually . I think it's worked well for the NRL . Maybe SL could even bring in a second young ref to police the 10 or play the ball area and gain experience that way rather than chucking him at the deep end.
