One of the biggest disapointments for me has being Gareth Ellis. The guy was supposed to be the marque signing the guy we could have built a team around for the next 2-3 years, the leader on and off the pitch. But for me he has being anything but.
The success of our club in the 80's was built around the signing of Knocker, the 2005/2006 team was Swain. I thought Ellis would have being that type of player but he hasn't. If he was any sort of leader we wouldn't have had the performances like last Thursday. All great teams are built around great players, more recently Leeds have had Sinfield, Wigan, Tompkins. Ellis certainly hasn't delivered on the pitch for the money we must have tied up in him.
Real shame about Gentle was a top bloke but we need a leader on the pitch.

Quote: easthullwesty "Do people honestly believe that there has been some sort of coup? or that Radford would seriously tell someone some time ago that he had got the nod? I just don't buy conspiracy theories. Nice guy who didnt recruit well enough. Went for a light weight pack and it didn't work, Had to use multiple half back combinations, all of which prefered to attack the right edge. He wanted to close the distance between our best and worst and simply didnt. Huddersfield wanted to prove a point on thursday, and our boys just looked shot. Too many patched up bodies with not enough energy. Its been a long season for a squad heavily impacted by injuries.

For all of those who said that they didnt play on thursday because they wanted him gone. You simply cannot take to a rugby pitch and not be committed. You will end up getting injured. Rugby is not a game you can play half d. Pretty gutted he's gone as he seems a great bloke, but he isn't the coach we hoped for.'"

Do you think there could be other reasons behind the downturn in form of Ellis. You dont get player of the year for 3 years running in the NRL then come home and be crap all of a sudden...was there a split in the camp for the Pro Gentle and the anti Gentle players?...I think there is deeper issues than anyone is aware of!!!!

Imo derserved another season, as i said before only ap knows what goes on behind closed doors, a lot on here hear voices in there heads and pretend its fact, am sure there are a few who maybe do know what might or might not be going on, but its getting harder to pick the wheat from the chaff so to speak

Exactly why I was so disappointed with him. Possibly, could be a reason but you would have thought a player with Ellis's history and standing would have had enough respect and clout to keep any decenting voices in check! Like I said was expecting him to be the next Swain at the club, a player to build the team around and for everyone to look up to admire.

Quote: easthull4 "Just to add flame to the fire I heard earlier this season that Radford had approached Rovers for the position of coach if Sandercock was to leave. And once again from a very very good source of information. He also was reported to have indicated Gentle was the worst coach he had been involved with. So much for being a loyal member of staff at KC. But once again only hearsay.'"

Fires need fuel adding not flames.
Apart from that though I reckon your post will be bang on.

Quote: jacko1 "Only problem is he is best of mates with some of the players causing the problems and doubt you'll see his best mates getting dropped when they are not playing well..'"

McDermott played with Jamie Peacock, who despite knocking on a bit has really upped his game over the last 18 months.

Personally I think Radford would not give a rats backside about dropping anyone.

I think, yet again, some one here are putting 2 and 2 together and getting half of fook all. Many have wanted a change, now its happening, and now some of the same are unhappy about it.

Realistically, who would come who is available? Where is the list of experienced coaches knocking the door down to get the job? Not many I reckon. Its a poison challis due to the unrealistic expectations of many of the fans.

Not suprised that he's gone as the board felt that the performance was unacceptable under any circumstances and also they didn't want the go into next season with the defeat hangng over them with no reaction from the board.
I think the Cats match took a lot out of a lot of players both mentally and physically and the CCF appearance was a negative given the way the team played and the lack of spark.

They need fuel, oxygen, heat plus an ignition source.

remove or dampen one and the others dont work or fade out

Quite a mix that does describe the different areas of our club and fanbase

Surely Radford wants to succeed so that he keeps coaching Hull and keep employment, thus meaning he picks the best team?

Hes a champion, true pro and in reality only 1 player in that squad, maybe 3 or 4 have played against McDermott but its not the same as to what we have.

A lot go on about Wane and Paul Anderson, Wane wont have played with any of his team and cant think of many that would have been with Anderson too (Fielden, Ferres and Kpozcak at a push?)

Quote: Diogenes "I always thought it was the players but think its something about the culture of the club that remains the same even when personnel change.

Or is it we fans? Is it the weight of our expectations? Our insistence that we are a "big club" when the reality is that our glory days were nearly 30 years ago and we are a well supported but average, mid table club, the Newcastle United of Super League?'"

I'd liken us more to Liverpool and Everton icon_smile.gif
