FWIW I rate Radford as a good player, but nowhere near the level you seem to. '"

Where have i ever said that Radford is anything more than a good player?

and my point was that he shouldnt let the ref watching him effect his confidence. Is that unreasonable?

The extent of your posts about him suggest you think he is a very top player, and one we should prioritise. I wouldn't be too bothered if he left us as I think he'd be one of the more easily replaceable in our squad.

But my point was more about about how you seem to refuse to acknowledge any bad performances from him. All players have bad games and he's had several over the last couple of seasons, but you can usually be found defending him when he does.

I'm not having a go, you're entitled to do what you want. I just find it all the more unusual as you are typically a very balanced and sensible poster, but on the odd subject you do seem to stubbornly dig your heels in regardless. icon_wink.gif

Not meaning to appear argumentative for the sake of it, but yes TBH. There are many things that affect people's confidence, and they are usually beyond their control. He's only human, the pressure of knowing he's being specifically watched more than anyone else on the pitch raises the stakes of his actions so is bound to have an impact.

Could also be a psoitive. If the ref is watching lauaki all of teh time then it may be an opportunity for someone to smack the opposition scrum half and get away with it

I think Radford is a good player. I think O'Meley is world class, Moa is good with the potential to be world class, Dowes is average and Cusack is poor this season out of our props.

I think Lauaki when he applies himself has the ability, size and strength to also be world class. He seems to be a bit lazy though and doesnt really do what he has the ability to do consistently enough for me. Which i guess is where my frustration comes from.

I do dig my heels in particularly around Radford because i think he gets a hard time from a lot on here that miss the point about him generally. He has been named at 13 for most of his FC games and was the captain in a poor team. He got stick on the back of this for not been a loose forward and for been a poor captain, both of which are unfair imo. When named at prop this season he is getting more positive reviews. I just think previous critiscisim is overly harsh for the job he does. On the flip side i've said for the last couple of years that Radford is a better back rower than Tickle. I'm now happy to admit that i think in a better side Tickle is starting to look the real deal.

We'll disagree on this point. Players with good mental strength wouldnt allow themselves to be the victim here, they'd go out and perform and maybe change the way that they play accordingly. Maybe thats the problem for Lauaki that he's struggling to adapt his game to the British style.

Fair enough, but with just one point. It's you that is making out Lauaki is considering himself a victim, and creating your own ammunition with which to tear him down on this point, on the basis of one other poster's comments. I've read the same comments and only see them as someone being wary of getting properly stuck in for fear of being penalised, which does lend itself to what I've been seeing in his performances.

I'm just not convinced that it's an issue with mental strength, personally, which is where I think you're being unreasonable. If he's being warned as soon as he enters the field of play that he's being watched, there's simply no other option for him than to curb his actions.

The silly penalties borne out of frustration are the ones he needs to get rid of, those from mis-timed tackles and the like are fine by me, they're part and parcel of a player like him, Morley, etc. That the referees seem to have a particular interest with him on this and not others in SL is the crux of the issue.

Quote: airliebird, runninglate! "i would say so. Been as his metres per carry are well over a metre more than willi manu's! also one of only 5 forwards in tackle busters top 25! that includes Demetriu who's played a lot in the backs. Really not getting this hame bashing. Good hands, good footwork, strong, bit of an offload, can even kick the ball!(think we've had 2 drop outs off him kicking)and he aint the penalty machine he made out to be. A bit dumb at times though! All thats needed is for it to all come together. Reason it hasn't as much as it should is more to do with how the team been playing around him and using him!'"

shame on you for using sensible stats and views on a Hame bashing thread shame on you, I believe you should be barred from this site for letting facts get in the way of a good player dismantling !!

But your right , and those who play around him love him to bits and look upon him as one of the UKs best impact players
