Quote: PAUL M "Some of the names on here are ridiculous. We might have space but we also need space on the cap, we won't get a marquee signing but maybe a young aussie halfback.

As for signing a centre I just don't see that happening. Yeaman and Berro should be the startign centres with Whiting and Turner as backups, we don't need another.

We have Sharp already, I would expect a younging prop and a halfback but not a marquee player. Remember we have also upgraded players contracts and Yak and Hall were not on that much anyway I believe.'"

If we're going to be playing Berrigan at centre, we also need to consider someone to share hooker with Houghton. I know some have mentioned Washbrook, but I'm not convinced his distribution is up to it.

Quote: Staffs FC "I think it's because he signed prior to the 2008 season which is where the dispensation cut off point is I believe. There was some doubt as to whether he would be exempt as he signed a 3 year deal with a 4th option year as opposed to a straight 4 year deal. Obviously it's come out in our favour.

If that's wrong anyone feel free to put it right.'"

When I was told about this a few weeks ago that was the only possible way I could see it being true.

If we have the cash I would pay a transfer fee and go get Rangi Chase. If not I'd be looking for a young Aussie half that we can build a team around. Move Luaki up to prop and the back is fine, maybe bring in a cheap British prop.

The big issue here for me, if what I am told is to be believed, is that it was Berrigan himself who did all the work on this, even paid for it (as I say, so I am told), wonder why (if true) it wasn't the club.

Shouldnt they be really be bringing in a big name and if we havent got the cap this year then can we not do what rovers did with Joel Clinton and pay him less next year and the rest the year after when we have plenty of room on the cap?

If you look at who we could be losing, it's easier to see what we need:-

Hall - Promotion of Lyne
Calderwood - Sharp
Dowes -
Yak - A young prop

So if anything we are short of one prop, but that would be a fith prop and with Lauaki/Fitz having the ability to play that role I can't see the need to sign two.

If Berro plays in the centres then we need cover for Houghton but that would probably be Washy, I reckon even Horne could play that role if required.

The key for me is another halfback, can't see us getting Chase, more likely to be a youngster from here or NRL.

It does seem odd I agree. Perhaps he is hoping to stay beyond his 4th year and thought being exempt and off quota would increase his value?

What big name?

After one season in the Nrl Manlys half back Brett Hodkinson has agreed a $800,000(£480,000) three year dealmwith Canterbury.

There in short supply oin oz why would they come here?

I have no doubts he wants to be here longer, he's bought a house (again, from what I am told), if he is played at Centre next season than I would be quite happy to keep him another two years after that, but he wouldn't be a "big" signing.

I think your half right he did all the work because he wants to stay longer than next season, I believe the club solicitors handled it though and the club paid!

Do you believe we have King and Raynors cap still available?

I think washy to 9 could be as effective as murrells move there.
