Can you tell me who Leeds halfback cover is?

| Quote: carl_spackler "No, I mean that I think Meli would be on significantly more than Calderwood, and we should be looking at cheaper than him until we've sorted the rest of the team out first. Surely Cusack, Calderwood, and whatever we paid Raynor could cover a decent prop, a winger like, say, Will Sharp (or even a 1-year extension for Calderwood until Lyne is ready), and a 2nd string halfback from somewhere. Doesn't have to be a 1st choice, just a back-up plan for Long who can organise a team.
In an ideal world we should be blooding Tuffour and Lyne a bit in the remaining games to see how they could do, but it may be too risky. The hype about Lyne seems to have made Tuffour a forgotten man, but I keep hearing he's doing well at York.
And if we don't consider ourselves already fully-stocked with backrowers and centres I despair.'"
We need a reaplcement for Yak, If Lauaki is that replacement then someone needs to replace him on the bench, Burnett is not ready imo.
I assume you want a decent halfback as cover, who do you know that would come and only expect to play in case of injuries? Best hope we have is a young halfback from the NL (unless Berro goes back), I heard we have been closely watching one or two.

| Quote: Mrs Barista "I think you're right. Guessing that part of Raynor's salary will count on this year's, but upgrades for Houghton, Tickle etc will probably offset that.
Maybe OTT, but I think we're shafted until 2012. At least then we'll have the salaries of Berrigan,Long, Fitz, Lauaki,Horne, Radford and Dowes to play with. Really need to get a top coach in for next season to assess the whole thing and review our approach to recruitment and squad structure with a massive amount of the cap to play with for 2012. A big name coach would make FC a more attractive destination, despite the PR managed love-in for Agar that we get every time a player signs.'"
To play devils advocate, bigger names than Long, O'Meeley and Fitz?

| Unless we can find a back up halfback like Briggs or Matty smith or another young NL or SL halfback, then I would look to sign Mathers and our halfbacks would Tansey and Long.

Fair point Paul, but Leeds didn't sign an older, injury prone half back at the end of last year. We knew Long would miss more games than he played, but didn't have a back up plan. And we still haven't. 2011 could be a long year.

We signed Turner who was supposed to be a 6. We also have Whiting, Washbrook and Berro which is more than most teams. Not the best halves but then cover generally isn't.
Leeds have a system and no matter who plays in the halves it does not change, we rely on players rather than systems which is why injuries hurt us so much.

| But who is the back up 7?
(and if anyone says Berrigan, I'll send the boys round)

I agree with that but whiting never gets a chance there , washy just isn't a 6 or 7 and berro is really struggling . We need a proper back up at 6 or 7

It's about halfback cover rather than a 6 or 7. When Sinfield moves to the halves with McGuire whilst Burrow is injured he plays 7 but clearly isn't one.
We have Tansey and Berrigan who have both played SH.

| No other teams have 2 old injury prone halfbacks though.
I dont know how but we have to make a quota spot available to sign another halfback.

So ther play a loose forward there. HELLO!! Don't we do that.
Sinfield of course is a much better player but the point is they play another player out of position.

| berrigan, horne, washbrook .yes they have played 7,but take sean long out and we havent a decent back up scrum half on the books.we will struggle till long returns.as for the future, its imperative we secure a young long term successor to long.

If Burrow or McGuire miss a game they have an international 13 that moves there dont they, and then they have fantastic cover to step into the back row. No comparison with us imo.

TBF Sinfield plays exactly the same way where ever hes name, the main pivot for Leeds.
People keep going on about a back up 7 but look at the likes of Leuluai ( a hooker ) Chase ( SO) Orr (SO) Jeffries (SO) to name a few who play at 7 for there clubs but not a natural 7. The role of a 7 has changed massively imo with the likes of Eastmond and Myler they play alot more like a 6 than actually controlling the game.
Someone needs to grow a pair and do something with Horne, he simply isnt good enough anymore. If we had a top class 6 we would be able to get away with playing the likes of Berrigan at 7.
