| Quote bonaire="bonaire"Yes we will miss Danny Houghton but he is not the reason why we are fading. We dropped the ball twice on zero tackle in crucial defensive positions and gave away silly penalties again.
There is only so much defending you can do under pressure before the line cracks.
When you look at the game Warrington made several crucial errors and gave us our points in the first half rather than us creating the position and putting on pressure.
We have to start building and maintaining pressure in the opposition 20 rather than looking at teams gifting us points or a piece of magic from Albert Kelly otherwise i can see both Salford and Leeds turning us over at home.
Griffin is also a liability in defence.'"
Surely the build-up to Kelly's try was building and maintaining pressure in the opposition 20?

| Quote Chris71="Chris71"Disappointed we failed for the 2nd game running to kill off the oppostion after opening a decent lead in the 1st half only to see us be our own worst enemy and let the opposition back in.
On the flip side i'd have taken 3pts from a possible 4 with away games at Wigan & Warrington and all this whilst still not really playing well for 80mins only for periods at a time in games.
Main worry is still the lack of ball retention at times and stupid penalties we are giving away.'"
I thought we overplayed at times today and were pressurising the Warrington line well in the first half. We then went too conservative in the second half IMO. Main concern right now is the length of Houghton's absence in a critical period.

| Quote hull2524="hull2524"3 out of 4 against wires and wigan is not to bad whatever position there in, best defense in the league and 1 point of the top, challenge cup holders to boot and yet some still bicker amongst themselves lol,'"
No one is bickering that Ive seen so not sure where you get that from?
Beginning of season before a ball is passed or kicked yes we would have taken that but we are now running with the big boys and able to compete and beat them.
So to lose commanding leads against a severely understrength Wigan and a misfiring low on confidence Warrington is disappointing this season and shouldn't be happening. Whether it's a mental issue I know not but to be the best we have to be continually consistent which I believe we can be.
Pleased with the Wigan victory but disappointed and frustrated with the result today.

| Quote Homenaway="Homenaway"Agreed - we are making too many mistakes, but keeping pace in the league (today - just!) I'm confident that as the season progresses we'll start to find our feet attacking-wise and hopefully will eradicate the stupid mistakes. that's how Radders earns his crust!
Regarding Warrington's mistakes, that's all part and parcel of the game. A fair proportion of of all games' tries could be seen that way. As others have said, we'd have taken this position at the start of the season and we can only get better (can't we?!!)'"
I hope we can but other teams can too.
Dean Hadley should be back next week or the week after to add some defence and he also makes few mistakes.
Still think we are better having Ellis on the bench to add punch when he comes on.Thompson is better starting rather than off the bench.

I'm not sure we can say it's a mental issue, if anything we have a reputation in the last couple of years for comebacks. More to me due to the team having to cover the tackles differential between Washbrook and Houghton; no offence to Washy whatsoever btw but illustrates the value of DH to the squad and we end up running on empty in the last quarter. We have the best defence in the competition also which is very pleasing.

| AS SL shows this year anybody can beat anybody, I still say 3 out of 4 points is not to bad, all this wigan are understrength and wires are bottom imo doesn't mean there matches we should win easily, imo still hard matches, yes we do seem to have a problem holding on to fairly big leads but still havnt lost one, am sure Radford will address this, plus today we had 4/5 players who would have been in the squad missing, I still say we arnt doing to bad and we can improve, we wont be far off ,

| Personally, I was very disappointed to concede 3 tries in the same corner when one-on-one tackling would have prevented them.
I think the fact that Talanoa is less likely to get drawn in, and is physically stronger, could have made the difference today.
Having said that , I think it is a point gained rather than a point lost.
[and a good day out all in all, very enjoyable in the sunshine

Too conservative? i dont think so.
We didnt have the ball to play.
Pulled the comment below from a Warrington fans post which sums it up.
Silly errors cost us the win today. If we can eliminate these we could climb up the table. Hull dropped a lot of ball second half mind. If they had played half decent they would have been out of sight.

Agree about Ellis on the bench. I'm sure Radford will be well aware of it, but for me the main thing for us at the moment is maintaining intensity and stamina during the game (especially with Houghton out). It's no good blasting off in great style only to run out of energy later on. I also believe Hadley's return could be crucial - he's a great defender.

I agree re Hadley - he is a winner and we need him.

Don't disagree on our handling. Radford said "It was a really bizarre game and I'm pleased with the way we built our first-half lead up but then in the second period we very much went into our shell.
"We relied on one-out rugby and ended up hanging on for dear life. It was a fantastic 39 minutes but we ended up thanking the rugby Gods at the end of it. Errors cost us again like last week at Wigan."

I thought 1st half was ok and built up a lead but similar to last week at Wigan we let the lead slip by mistakes from dropped ball to stupid penalties. Its almost as if we think the games won and take the foot of the gas then when the opposition get some momentum we panic.
Wigan whether understrength or not are no mugs and neither are Warrington despite their start to the season and to have taken 3 out 4pts from those games is a good return. Think this season we are seeing that everyone can beat each other and no games will be that easy.
