I always presumed that the cancer that McRae alluded to all those years ago was Kath and co but I can't help but feel that it runs deeper than that.

To were though, there are no players left at the club from that era that McRae spoke about.

I always thought it was the players but think its something about the culture of the club that remains the same even when personnel change.
Or is it we fans? Is it the weight of our expectations? Our insistence that we are a "big club" when the reality is that our glory days were nearly 30 years ago and we are a well supported but average, mid table club, the Newcastle United of Super League?

Why?? Ellis, Holdsworth an McDonnell are still there.
He's played with Ellis an other 2 fellow Aussies.
As for Gentle, even though his record doesn't state it. He's done alot more for us then any of our last 3 in my opinion.
He's laid down the foundations (Aswel As AP) with our youth structure, training facilities and our own HB school. Hes brought in 5 youngsters from academy an even though some are still up for question, at least he showed faith in them.
I for one is sad to see him go, as i think he could of offered so much more if only the team had not let him down.

Thats why I have major reservations as to promoting Radford to Head Coach as he was the Captain during our other poor performing seasons and has very limited coaching experience at SL level and I have doubts over his ability to remove himself from the players as a Head Coach rather than a mate.
I also still think certain senior members of the sqaud are payed way over the odds for what they have offered not just this but previous seasons.
Ultimately time will tell is Gentle going is the right decision, for me although the jury was still out on Gentle I think him going is and will prove the wrong one if the rumoured coaching appointments come to fruition.

One or 2 occasiosn, nothing regular and usually when its him paying
Had people promoted above, they f**ked the job up and i had to pick up the piece or had to come and ask me how things should be done

Me too.
Unfortunately, there are some one here who believe everything they read, and today the ifs and rumours are now being debated as facts.
Radford and Cooke have suffered from the same kind of misinformation for years.
I've been watching Hull for 55 years and don't lose any sleep when Rovers lose, but reading this forum you can sense a real hatred from some posters, not just against the opposition but now against people who are a part of Hull FC.

| One of the biggest disapointments for me has being Gareth Ellis. The guy was supposed to be the marque signing the guy we could have built a team around for the next 2-3 years, the leader on and off the pitch. But for me he has being anything but.
The success of our club in the 80's was built around the signing of Knocker, the 2005/2006 team was Swain. I thought Ellis would have being that type of player but he hasn't. If he was any sort of leader we wouldn't have had the performances like last Thursday. All great teams are built around great players, more recently Leeds have had Sinfield, Wigan, Tompkins. Ellis certainly hasn't delivered on the pitch for the money we must have tied up in him.
Real shame about Gentle was a top bloke but we need a leader on the pitch.

I just don't buy conspiracy theories. Nice guy who didnt recruit well enough. Went for a light weight pack and it didn't work, Had to use multiple half back combinations, all of which prefered to attack the right edge. He wanted to close the distance between our best and worst and simply didnt. Huddersfield wanted to prove a point on thursday, and our boys just looked shot. Too many patched up bodies with not enough energy. Its been a long season for a squad heavily impacted by injuries.
For all of those who said that they didnt play on thursday because they wanted him gone. You simply cannot take to a rugby pitch and not be committed. You will end up getting injured. Rugby is not a game you can play half d. Pretty gutted he's gone as he seems a great bloke, but he isn't the coach we hoped for.'"
What I was thinking but saves me typing it

Do you think there could be other reasons behind the downturn in form of Ellis. You dont get player of the year for 3 years running in the NRL then come home and be crap all of a sudden...was there a split in the camp for the Pro Gentle and the anti Gentle players?...I think there is deeper issues than anyone is aware of!!!!

Exactly why I was so disappointed with him. Possibly, could be a reason but you would have thought a player with Ellis's history and standing would have had enough respect and clout to keep any decenting voices in check! Like I said was expecting him to be the next Swain at the club, a player to build the team around and for everyone to look up to admire.

And once again from a very very good source of information. He also was reported to have indicated Gentle was the worst coach he had been involved with. So much for being a loyal member of staff at KC. But once again only hearsay.'"
Fires need fuel adding not flames.
Apart from that though I reckon your post will be bang on.

McDermott played with Jamie Peacock, who despite knocking on a bit has really upped his game over the last 18 months.
Personally I think Radford would not give a rats backside about dropping anyone.
I think, yet again, some one here are putting 2 and 2 together and getting half of fook all. Many have wanted a change, now its happening, and now some of the same are unhappy about it.
Realistically, who would come who is available? Where is the list of experienced coaches knocking the door down to get the job? Not many I reckon. Its a poison challis due to the unrealistic expectations of many of the fans.
