Thought they would have been a bigger turnout! What was the attendance for Hornes testimonial?

Can't recall but his was against KR.
It was a decent turnout for Kirk and a good run out for the majority of the squad.

Just got back, we have a good indication who PG thinks his first team is.

First half tacked well against Cas first team, Whiting and Green looked good, Horney ok, Seymour poor, his passing is so wayward at times, hard to see how he played so many NRL games. Shaul quite handy too but small. Ben Crooks out of position a bit in defence.

Second half came out blazing for 15 minutes then went off the boil, picked up again towards the end.

McDonnell good going forward, made one mistake not taking high ball on the full, I was sat in a different place to usual and the bellend behind me slagged him off all half. Good runner and backed up well.

Other quick thoughts:

Holdsworth, good accurate passes, best field kicker we have had for ages, seemed to have time.

Heremia, played well at half, nice kick for a repeat set.

Arundal, quiet but good hit to force an error.

Crooks, quiet but good drives for half.

O'Meley, looks slimmer and aggressive, good game.

Ellis, fairly quiet, no mistakes.

Westerman, good try.

Galea, quiet.

Having just got back lll echo the previous poster, first half only really Green and Horne showed anything, Seymour was poor but the young lads stood up well and blotted out the threat of Chase. Second half the big boys came on with Heremaia and Holdsworth in the halfs which to me could indicate how we may line up for the season and we was much better for a time then the game went a bit stale though the conditions probably dictated that. The McDonnell try was good, Ellis looked Steady as did Holdsworth but for me the standout was Westerman who i think will have a fine season and is my bet for player of the season if not FCs main chance at Man of Steel

Will voice a few of my opinions from today;

Thought Shaul made some very good runs in the first half. Little nippy players and cut through a few defenders in some good attacking play.

Lineham must have notched up more hit ups than the forwards. He was taking it in at least once a set, and twice on some of them. Not shy of putting the work in!

O'Meley looked great. Strong running and always made extra yards after the collision.

Ellis was as steady as I expected him to be. Made some good drives. We just need to make sure we have a player on his shoulder more often as he got his hands free a couple of times but there was nobody to offload to.

Holdsworth's kicking looked better than anything I've seen at Hull for a few seasons. Nearly every kick (even if straight down the middle) at least found the floor and not straight into the full backs hands. He did kick one out on the full, but it looked to me like he was attempting a 40/20 and I'm glad to see we have a kicker who feels confident to go for those!

McDonnell looked good when he actually got the ball. On two occasions rather than taking it on the full he opted to try and trap it with his foot. One didn't pay off and Cas ended up with another 6 tackles 10 metres from our line. His 40/20 save was one of the plays of the match.

Just some opinions on a few players who I thought stood out. Everybody else played steady and we were obviously still a bit rusty at times. I can't wait to see how they go next week now and then who our starting 17 will be come the season!!

Ellis ran hard in attack and defended well when he got the chance, Cas avoided him like the plague.
Holdsworth looked good and put some alright kicks in, Heremaia went alright in the halves in the second half.
Arundel didn't look bad, didnt get chance to do much, same goes for Crookes who I thought looks like he's put on a bit of timber since Bradford.

In the first half, Shaul and Cunningham impressed me and both look very promising, Crooks and Bowden both played well to get their tries, Green also ran very well.

Did you think Lineham was trying a bit too hard after seeing he was on the B team ? Tried a miracle pass on the first tackle for instance.

Mr Tourettes behind me let off a string of expletives when McDonnell saved the 40/20 about him being a liability and letting in more than he scores. I despair at times with people basing their opinion on 20 minutes of play (at that time).

Typical friendly quite scrappy but encouraging signs from the new signings, just 1 mistake from mcdonnell but showed great footwork when stopping 40/20
