From a sentimental viewpoint I agree with your point. However when Fitz chose to come and play in the UK at the end of his career, there was a strong chance that he would bow out in exactly the circumstances that he did. Fitz knew this and IMO he would not be that bothered. He had a befitting end to his playing days when he retired in Australia.
