Having American family and living there for a while, its hardly a surprise they say this. It would mean admitting the way they do things is wrong. I also don't think the Americans are particularly representative of the whole world.

But I do get a bit sick of people being snooty about others' enjoyment of a great day of British pageantry and patriotism. I don't get huffy about people celebrating May Day and that gets a Bank Holiday every year.
