Johnathan Thurston is the best scrum half in the World yet the Cowboys finished at the bottom of the pile in the NRL (not including the Strom for obvious reasons). Is that his fault for not making those around him 'perform above themselves'?

What people see is Wire assembling a 'team of all the talents' on allegedly the same amount of money as everyone else. Hardly surprising that questions get asked. Especially as they outbid other clubs for certain players, so approximate salaries are known.
This latest move is stretching credulity to the limit TBH. Unless Hicks has waived a major chunk of his remaining contract value it's difficult to see where there was the space on either last years cap or the 2011 cap to absorb his payoff and still afford Monaghan.
Seems that the most important appointment at a club nowadays is the salary cap accountant.

Of course, in theory, Hicks could agree to leave for nowt. A natural progression for an RL outside back is to get job in the music industry overseas, say in Australia, for instance, working for a concert promoter.

We also know we failed in our bid to sign Michael Monoghan, to quote J Rule "we're not prepared to pay silly money"
We also know Carvell turned his back on a salary north of 100k.

Exactly my point digby, the numbers rumoured for michael monaghan was that we offered around £200,000 and warrington beat us to it so that means around £500,000 is spent on just two players!

Berrigan
Fitzgibbon
O'Meley
Lauaki
Long
Horne
Manu
Tickle
Briscoe
Yeaman
Bet they are all on similar money to the players you named, of course they aren't as good but that's down to poor management from us not cheating by Wire.

I would give you:
Berrigan
Fitz
O'Meley
Manu
Tickle
and maybe longy on £100,000 or more but i doubt horney, yeaman, briscoe, tansey, radford, dowes or houghton are near the £100,000 yet as we have a wage structure in relation to internationals and i wouldnt expect any of these to be on or anywhere near what some of the warrington players i named are potentially earning.

Long is definately on over £100,000 as is Horne (I know he gets that 50% cap reduction but I assume Briers does for Wire), Yeaman is a past GB internation and I believe pulled out of the England squad this year due to injury, Briscoe wasn't an international when he signed his last deal but it was a 5 year deal and it was obviously a matter of time before he became one so won't have been cheap. I never said Dowes, Tansey and houghton were near 100,000 but I don't believe the wire players I compared them to are either.
Obviously this is nowhere near an exact science but Im just trying to point out that the discrepancy isnt so vast that it has to be down to Wire cheating.

Radford wasn't on £100k before his new reduced deal.

It's shocking that you don't, is it because not all of them perform like it on the pitch?
