Was Cooke ever in the Dream Team during his best form for Hull

Yes, in 2005. Lost out to McGuire in 2006 but McGuire scored 21 tries himself that year.

Oh right, fair dues. Pretty clear though that there was only room for one - Dobson or Cooke - to be the creative engine of the Rovers team. Paul Cooke at his best does not come close to Dobson at his best IMO.

Paul Cooke was a pivotal player in winning the Challenge Cup (beating Bradford, Saints and Leeds to do so) and was an ever-present in a team that finished 2nd in SL and got to the Grand Final. Saying that at his best he "did not come close to Dobson" is silly. Morgan never wanted Cooke. A coach with more vision and less petulant self-interest could perhaps have worked these two players into a great partnership.

| Quote: Mrs Barista "Agree with you on this one. Without him FC wouldn't have won the Challenge Cup and Rovers would not be in Super League, it's that simple. Massively pi$$ed off at the time, but just pity him now for his greed and waste of undoubted talent. A sad case.'"
Quote: Mrs Barista "Cooke's creativity was pivotal to FC's best period in a generation - in 2005 and 2006 he made 53 assists, excluding cup games. Easy to disregard in the turbulent (and in many's opinion unforgivable) way he left the club, but for all his off the pitch issues he was a big game player that delivered consistently at SL level, and his move to Rovers followed by his unceremonious dethronement in favour of Dobson did for him in the end.'"

Makes you wonder why Morgan played him so many times in the survival season (and in huge games like Salford away) then?

Apart from the Murrell bit, obviously. International pivot and all that.

Jesus H Christ, Roofs. Cooke was signed for £100k+ a year and Dobson didn't even join Rovers until 2008. Cooke was a far more proven option at SL level than Murrell to partner Webster. The beginning of the end for Cooke's career was when Morgan stepped on Webster's face to get to Dobson.

| Quote: Roofs "Translatedmade the correct decision to push Dobson as the main man.
Dobson has undoubtedly been a success at Rovers, that is not the point at all. Cooke was a pivotal player in a top 2, CC-winning, GF side. Morgan chose not to optimise the contribution of Cooke because of his insistence on channelling everything through goldenbollox Dobson, thereby, in conjunction with Cooke's own issues, effectively ending Cooke's career. Morgan's failure to create a top partnership between a rising star and an experienced and creative top 2 HB should go down as a huge missed opportunity, surely?
