Yes, because neither of their stocks are high enough at the moment to warrant being tapped up. IMO. Can you see Hall being sought out to be first choice centre at Leeds, Warrington, Huddersfield or Wigan? Not sure that I can TBH, and I do recognise his attacking potential at centre. I didn't bag Hall after his defensive frailties were exposed against Wigan, because yet again he's out of position. Which is because we've gone into the season with only 1 winger and no clear first choice right centre.
FWIW (not much I know ) as it stands I'd bring in a centre and a winger next season and offload 2 of Yeaman, Hall and Whiting, remembering we've still got Raynor's salary to play with and we've got Turner to cover centre and Lyne/Tuffour on the fringes of the squad.

| Yeaman would get snapped up straight away,a very good centre who will be our top try scorer again (Don't forget this is with a very poor attacking team),as regards Hall, the lad is a great attacker, but his defense is very suspect, make or break year for him.

| I havent missed a game yet this season and I dont have any issues when he is defending at centre and with the ball in hand I really believe he is something special. On the wing on Friday however he was badly exposed. It wasnt that he missed or dropped off tackles, he just made bad calls in defence. He got drawn inside far too often by either ball watching or not trusting his centre.
Having said all this, he is a centre and not a winger. Like the OP said, winger is a specialist position and he should not be played there. However, this is not Craig's fault and Agar made a bad call for me.
As for Kirk, I dont see what he has done wrong this season. Ok, maybe he doesnt put his winger away when he should sometimes, but his awesome strength compensates for this. He very rarely gets stopped 10 yards out and his denfence is spot on IMO.
I would not hesitate in giving them both new deals.

| I know people see Briscoe as a centre, but imo I don't think he is. Or if he played there I think he would just be another Yeaman/Atkins kind of player. I know he's been on the wing but I've still never seen him pass the ball. To me he just doesn't look the type of centre who will be able to put his winger away.

We've already got Briscoe contracted for 2011+, and Turner to cover centre. Personally I would hesitate to offer both deals when you factor in Whiting and his utility value also and consider we've only Calderwood as a recognised winger and he's OOC too. We miss a player of Raynor's quality in the backs IMO. With Hall, Yeaman, Whiting and Calderwood all OOC, and Raynor's salary to play with, this is a good opportunity to sort out the backs as we've sorted out the forwards in the last close season.

You've obviously thought about the contract situation in far more depth than I have , all good points.
I personally would give a contract to Hall before Whiting. I know a lot on here are big Whiting fans and I like him as a player too. BUT Tansey is our fullback, for me Whiting is too slow to play in the outside backs, I dont see him figuring at halfback again for us and he has no chance of ever playing in our back row. I think he is good with the ball, very good defensively.......just too slow.
For me, Craig Hall has the potential to be a very good centre. Good pace, excellent hands, great eye for a gap and a very good finisher. We all know that he sometimes struggles defensively, but to me that is more to do with positioning rather than dropping off tackles.
I still think Yeaman is one of best centres in SL and would be snapped up in an instant if he was allowed to go OOC.

you know what I dont take any offence from folk who simply disagree with me as thats the beauty of these forums, its all about differing opinions however what i do take offence to is those who are directly attacking me not the post and those of you who have been on here for a long time may not realise what a closed shop it can be and how the "old school" posters can gang up if one is offended by something...
remember just because someone has been posting a long time means they have exactly nil more entitlement to say their piece than a brand new fish on here, but the old posters it seem get far more slack than the new ones!!!
one of the oldest members on here had a torrid time too and wasnt happy today either so its not just me
However some / many posters old and new are very nice too !!
oh and all the mods are top guys too

| Yes I would offer deals to both Yeaman and Hall personally, Yeaman doesn't do much wrong for me and he is starting to look like his old self again and Hall just has the knack of finding the line and scoring trys. For me Whiting place would be in doubt he is not quick enough to be a back although he always gives 100% and we have plenty of forwards so where do we play him????. Give Tuffour a run out to see what he has got and try and get another winger(Ainscough) for next year.

| Hall still a good prospect, his defense not great, but good in attack. Has to play centre only though or dropped IMO.
Yeamo deffo a new contract IMO. Solid and professional, good all rounder and English. Threw a rugby ball at rovers fans and kissed his badge. Nuff said! We need people like Yeamo joking aside. I suspect however, that he is on a large contract and we would offer him a bit let than last time..........but I have no clue about this, just a feeling.

The point is, whilst you (and many others) may not consider Whiting to be first choice in any particular position, he can slot in just about anywhere other than prop or wing and do a more than creditable job. In a high impact, salary cap sport, you need a player like that in the squad. He's incredibly valuable and would be missed if he was released.
