The media will forget about it soon enough. RL simply isn't sufficiently newsworthy and there are always bigger and better scandals cropping up to boost their circulations with.

The RFL's statement is pretty wishy-washy and may indicate that they'd rather make a token effort and let the whole thing die down quietly. The very last thing they'll want is for Long to actually turn up at Red Hall with a long list of names that they would then have to investigate and possibly charge, bringing far more negative publicity.

At the moment the only thing Long's in line for is a [ipossible[/i misconduct charge if he refuses to cooperate with any inquiry. If he backs down from his claims or simply states that he doesn't have firm evidence against any particular individuals then it's hard to see him getting more than a bollocking TBH.

Still - there is still a risk and it would have been a whole lot better if he'd just left one or two 'revelations' out of the book altogether.

Get those season passes sold before Longy meets the RFL

The charge was assault, the girl was a young woman, pi$$ed and angry because he was messing about in front of the car in which she and her mates were travelling.

She was not a 'young girl'. That makes her sound like she was 10. Read the book Rogues or, if you have, cite it accurately.

And Wigan board were a bunch of prigs. Widnes had no probs taking on Longy and nor did Saints. All knew of his suspended sentence for the assault charge (which came about after he had been hit by one of her friends). Wigan have regretted giving away Longy and Wigan fans have been envious of the success he has brought to Saints over the subsequent 12 years. And you're sounding more and more bitter with each post you write on this subject!

As for the betting business. The RFL has had that book for weeks. My guess is that they have been pursued by the media and so think it's a good idea now to 'have a chat with' Mr Long so as to be seen to be doing something. He won't name names and I can't see him being charged with misconduct or anything for that matter. The references were purely anecdotal and I'm sure his lawyer will be ready for it.

PS: Short of testing Hock every day, there is no way of knowing he will stay clean. After all, he hid his habit well for who knows how long before that test, didn't he?
