Would think thats at least 2 years ahead and Washy will need a contract renewal before then or so I believe.
If he has changed into a leader then it is certainly not something that is natural to him. I have watched him playing from about the age of 8/9 when he was at Humber Social and all through his Youth days at Skirlaugh and on to Longhill and he was never a leader at any of those clubs, always had a decent halfback alongside him to do the leading ( seem to remember Matty Brooks being the leader at Longhill ) I suppose things can change but certain things cant be coached, Richard Horne being a case in point, and I just haven't seen the same leadership qualities that you obviously have.

Would appear that way. Ive only seen Washy since he played for FC 20s but i'd say him been given the captaincy for our very successful 20s shows he has a certain amount of leadership ability. I'm always very impressed with him when i see it.

The other point about his contract renewal and Agar still been in charge. Thats going to be a call that could go either way imo. Depends how much and where Agar uses him between now and then imo. If Washy isnt getting much game time he could well choose to leave for more rugby. I'm pretty sure FC will offer him a deal to stay though.

i'm afraid i'm of the view that Washy just doesn't cut it as a play-maker/leader in our squad. i agree he would make a better LF than half-back but he just doesn't give us enough attacking options. only my opinion but i think we should look at replacing him with a better back.

He's the only player we have that i've seen really take the line on over the last 12 months and give decent cut out balls to the winger. He has a couple of assists for that. He's smarter in attack than he gets credit for a lot of the time.

i agree, that is one of his strengths. but he doesn't seem to know what to do with the ball in the middle of the field. since Agar would prefer to use an extra prop instead of a LF Washy will only ever be a half-back with us and for that he isn't clever enough with the ball. LF would suit him better as he'd be able to move around a bit more but compared to other Super League LF's he'd only ever be average. if Agar was to start using a LF he'd be better off looking somewhere else.

Two immediately spring to mind. One away v Celtic to put Calderwood in and one at home in the south west corner and i think he put Calders in again, may have been Whiting cant really remember the recipient.

Odd that according to the stats he only has one try assist this season?

when's Washy OOC? if it's this year then i think Agar would be better off looking for a replacement. if it's next year then he might benefit from having Long's and Webster's experience and may improve as a player. i think in the end it depends how Agar recruits for next year.

It's also how you define an assist. Washy might make a 50 metre break downfield and from the next couple of ptb's we score a try. He would get no try assist for that but without his break the try would not have been scored.

Washy is a good young player with lots of potential, in the last couple of seasons he has not progressed as much as I would have hoped but injuries and playing out of position will be the major factor. We are too quick to write off our young players at times imo.

He is also a good leader with the younger players at the club and is a player we should be keeping hold of. He is under contract until the end of next season anyway.

We were specifically talking about his apparent ability to throw a miss out pass to put his winger away though. I certainly wasn't criticising him as a player I was simply saying I dont believe he has the passing ability that BDT was suggesting.
