I said it was a mistake after his second game.

I have not been impressed with Sharp I have been concerned about his defence, however I recognise he has speed and heart, and if he stays it will be a clean slate for me under a new coach (who incidentally was a defensive coach) and support the lad.

Are you lot serious?!?!????? It doesn't matter what side he plays. If any of you have played rugby league you would know that it wouldn't effect a player too much playing on the left or right side, especially at super league level where half backs should be able to pass both ways to supply wingers with decent balls. Sharp is a decent player and did make mistakes but he should have been given more of an opportunity and more support from the t1t that is Agar.

| Quote: Pookie "I think its easy to sometimes think of the winger as the last and least important player in the team, you can almost think you can stick anyone there and get away with it (in a way we have sticking Whiting there). Look how many tries from nothing that a top quality winger like Briscoe brings. If Jordan Turner keeps improving like he has I just wonder if we would be better looking for another TOP quality winger - I just dont think Sharpe or Lynn are going to be that person and would much rather see Whiting on the bench covering numerous positions perhaps (or invevitably filing in one of the back line positions when we have injuries)'"
Because to a large extent it's true. Give me a class centre and an ok winger every time.

What is the MAJOR difference in playing on the opposite side?
If he was a centre, then fair enough.
Harder to run in a straight line?
Harder to step?
Harder to tackle?
Harder to catch?
Harder to pass? (who to? back to your centre is right to left by the way)
Harder to put an early cross into the 6 yard box?

I tend to agree...for me a top class centre and a winger with bags of pace.

In a positional sense of course it matters Some wingers are more comfortable on one side to the other, plus there have been numerous times when he has been left exposed to 2 or even 3 attackers, due to players like long and tickle jumping the line. He's never had a settled run in the team, playing with different centres(Whiting,Turner,Gleeson).Partnerships need time to gel,not 2/3 games.A top centre partner, and consistent defending alongside him, should see him improve dramatically.

| Defensively, for me, all a winger needs to do, is mark his winger. If they go through the centre position then in theory that is the centre's fault.
If he can mark his winger and occasionally read a play and hit the centre then that is ok for me

| Most teams attack better down their left side. A right winger will likely be asked more questions over time defensively than a left winger and any shortcomings will therefore be more apparent. We created miles more down our left side in attack and caused far more problems for opposition right wingers than left. Sharp will likely have had more to deal with on the right wing than he used to have on the left wing at Quins. Attack wise our right wingers have overall had fewer chances than our left wingers for donkey's years for the same reasons. We did however see a glimpse of how that can be evened up a bit with the all too brief appearance of a top class right centre in the team this season.
Would be happy for Sharp to be given further time to develop and erase the issues he has in his game under a new coach. He is fairly quick and certainly doesn't lack effort but needs lots of raw edges removing.

Totally agree, I have high hopes for him for next season and would love to see him prove his doubter's wrong. All this talk that we need another winger is madness IMO.

I like him too but i'll tell you what happened. He made a few mistakes, mainly from high kicks and Agar decided that instead of working on his weaknessess to develop the player lets pick the safe option and go for Whiting.
Sharp has all the skills and attributes, he needs to work on a few things but I think he could be excellent for us. He will always struggle with kicks due to his height.
