| Quote: *1865* "Load of rubbish. What fan waits to see how a team does in pre-season to make a decision as to whether to attend? You don't half talk some rubbish.'"
With season pass sales down I think there is an indication that some are already begining to waver. A very poor pre-season coupled with very poor weather, Sky cameras and a not so inspiring first game (in terms of atmosphere. I personally feel its a potential 4 pointer as Catalans will be battling positions 7, 8 , 9 with us this year) will I have no doubt see our lowest league attendance for a number of years.
We then move onto Saints and Wire and there is the potential that we could be looking at the next home game against Bradford as having a very embarassing crowd.
So I would say that a far from inspiring pre-season may well have serious effect on the crowds. Add in what we ended on last season and the mood gets darker.
With questions about attitude already appearing it is no wonder the glass is half empty for many.

Time for Radford to start as he means to go on, after his rant in the paper needs to be seen to act. Only glimmer of hope is with Pearson holding the purse-strings it's either him (Radders) or them. Will he find the strength?'"
Worst initial fear over his appointment ? Surely it's a fraction early to be casting doubt over the coach when the season hasn't even started yet - as bad as some of the pre season friendlies were.
I have no doubt that Pearson has installed Radford as the man to sort out the underlying attitude and approach issues with some of Hull's first team squad by ruling them with the stick. I've read some hand-wringers (not on here) worrying about Radford already laying into his squad in the paper etc. IMO that's exactly how Pearson wants Radford to react - he's not talking about all the players he's talking about a select few who seem to coast from one season to the next by playing to their potential in only around half of the games. There was evidence of this yet again on Sunday. We now also have the captain in the paper talking about adding his two penneth as required down the line in the same context.
I didn't see Pearson's piece in the paper today as a 'vote of confidence' - more a serious measure of support that Radford will be backed with what he needs to alter the lazy culture that some seem to cling to. Let's face it as I said the other day we've had a succession of coaches right back to McRae (the first to talk about the 'cancer' at the club) who have failed to a greater or lesser extent to solve this issue. I think Radford is a medium-long term appointment by Pearson to ensure that the crop of young players coming through now are left in little doubt as to what's required in terms of preparation and attitude to be a pro in SL. Some of our more established players with question marks hanging over them may find themselves playing at Donny or Gloucester as well. I think Pearson judged that Gentle would never have tackled this issue and Radford in his judgement might do.
It will be interesting how things pan out but at this stage it's pretty hard to judge Radford either way until we actually see him coach some games. Team selection in particular (players in form/showing the right attitude not players by name) might be a good indicator. As ever injuries will have a big say in that.

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?: |

Hasn't Radford had an entire pre-season to sort out the attitude problems?
They didn't seem very afraid of him on Sunday.

Maybe some players attitude problems can't be sorted out. It's what the coach does with those players in terms of selection and retention that I would have thought would be the issue. That will be the sign of whether he is standing for no nonsense - not whether the players looking scared of him or not.

Maybe some players will never change?
Bearing in mind that all but 5 of the starting line-up on Sunday have hardly played a season for Hull between them, it doesn't leave many to choose from with "attitude".
Shaul, Lineham, Crooks, Yeaman, Stark, Horne, Rankin, Watts, Hadley, Bowden, Thompson, Whiting, Westerman
Arundel, B Tyson-Wilson, Green, Miller, Abdull, Kent, Nicklin, Liggins, Leaming, H Tyson-Wilson, Turgut, Fash, Shepherdson
Taking Horne and Whiting out of the equation only leaves 3. Maybe dropping players is his last option, but injuries will delay that approach for a while. And then of course it might be some of the youngsters who are part of the problem?

| Well if "some players will never change" and "some players' attitude problems can't be sorted out" its up to Radford to identify them and Pearson to get rid of them, as promised.
If this doesn't happen, things will never improve.

| Listening Mr Radford after game interview not a happy man.
Poor attitude from players in the 1st half, who is he talking about.
Crooks, rankin, watts, bowden, thompson, westermen or miller. Green or all of them.
Throwing the young lads on when you are 24-6 down interesting decision.
