I dont think we can, but it needs seriously re-organising.

| People who attend A4e and other training providers for the 13 or 26 weeks do not count on unemployment statistics. If you calculate these figures country wide the true figures are massive.

| Quote Gordon Gekko="Gordon Gekko"There is now way a conservative government would let the welfare state get as big as it is now. Besides the minumum wage was supposed to combat the benefit culture, but all its done is increase marginal wages and employer costs and at the same time the benefit culture........................................thats hit the nail on the head there!!.you could never say that the tories were bothered about peoples welfare, just ask those people that worked in the mining/steel/ ship building industries im sure theyll agree with you..i always thought the minimum wage was a good thing..wouldnt you feel a bit cheated if your kids were working for a1£ an hour.i certainly would..rather than having a go at the benefit culture.have a think about billionaires living in london that dont pay one penny in tax..all legal..theres a lot of things in this so called society we live in thats wrong and the benefit culture is way down the list......

| Quote Fc Til I Die 316="Fc Til I Die 316"i thinks its disgusting how much unemployed people get...imo the unemployed should do community service till they find work...at least then they would "earn" their dole. if i were unemployed i would do it at least i would have some pride and honour. i put this to the clients and 100% said they would refuse point blank. As for the fella i mentioned who has not worked for 30 years....i have dismissed him lol'"
ffs so we should class the people made redundant from the caravans etc as criminals
Earn your dole, people have been paying NI & Tax so they are entitled to get the dole.

Dont agree I'm afraid. Its not a savings scheme. It should be the same for everyone and a last resort when work is not available.

Correct. It's an insurance scheme, and one of the things it insures against is being out of work.
While having a 'workfare' system may seem attractive in a tabloidesque way, the problem is that it won't just penalise the feckless and workshy - it will also penalise folk who have worked all their lives and are simply victims of circumstance.

| Quote boulevardclover="boulevardclover"Greencore dont make me laugh. I was at a4e a few months ago got forsed into a job at green core. dont get me wrong I am glad of a job but if I had known how bad greencore is I would have flat out refused. The staff are extreamly abusiv and managment dont want to know. and let me state I advise anbody not to eat products from greancore as hygiene is a joke along with h+s.
I agree that benifits should pay out less than minimum wage however I was on better money in the dole queue.
as for a4e I will give them credit they got me a job even though i was forsed into it after about 3 days of been there but the place is a joke, you are given activities to go count the steps on a building, some groups get taken to laser quest, just how does going to laser quest find you a job? also the techer if you want to call them that couldnt be ar$ed and repetedly told people to go away for a few hours and have a few joints. how is telling people to go do drugs helpful.
one of the main reasons for places like A4E as i can see it is to get people of the unemployment figures. as when you are at A4E even though you are still collecting your dole you arnt classed as unemployed.'"
for a start A4e dont force anyone to do anything. Nobody held a gun to your head did they. Greencore is rubbish yeah but its a job. honest pay for you and respect from your peers or do u want to be one of the millions on the queue???
second of all its closed mindedness like your comments which give a4e a bad name. sending you to "count steps" is new to me but all other activities etc are designed with skills development in mind. such as team work, confidence, self esteem, communication, assertiveness, equality, diversity, literacy, numeracy etc etc the list goes on.

Is it not ? I have worked for the last 26 years, and as I say I have paid my NI and tax so I feel I should be entitled if I face any unfortunate circumstances, I feel I should not as one poster suggested do community service
