| Quote: FC Wembley 08 "A spokesman for the RFL admitted Willie Mason could qualify for 'special status' through the Cotonou Agreement between the European Union and the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States.
Auckland-born Mason could argue that he should not be considered overseas as he holds a New Zealand passport and has a Tongan mother.
His agent has used this to attract the interest of Super League clubs in recent weeks, and the RFL spokesman said the cause would be considered 'on its own merits'.
Asked about Mason, he said
I can see how that avoids the overseas quota - but he still wouldn't be fed trained. As I put on the Rovers board earlier this would be more than just a loophole, it'd be the end of the rules. Personally I think the HDM might just be confused - and on this they have my sympathy and understanding.

Well then that settles that, he's I kiwi, with a tongan mother and he's played for Australia....
Can't see why he would be classed as quota/ overseas..
Maybe he has a Welsh cousin to boot..

Starting to think that might be the best thing. Stipulate a number of players that must have come through your own academy (and a minimum number of games they must play to avoid this just being making up the numbers) and let the salary cap dictate the number of overseas players. It's already descended into farce IMO.

| Quote: east hull FC fan "For those who want Berros quota spot filled by a half - How are you going to convince a young Aussie halfback to come and be back up to Long and Horne? I'll be happy to see another forward get the quota spot. Just a shame it couldn't of been Josh Perry. But circumstance dictates.
Is their any other Aussie forwards ooc?'"
why would an aussie halfback have to back up for horne and long, how many times have they played together again 4 , now for me an young halfback wether thats aussie or british is a priority as recent seasons have proved that sticking washy or berro or whoever isnt the answer.

| Quote: east hull FC fan "Money has nothing to do with it, if he can get a club he will leave. IMO.'"
He has three very good offers to go already in the last week easty !!! his problem is he has never done it just for the money he came here for the experience and the challenge as much as the cash and remember he was offered more to stay in the NRL , he is actually a man of honour towards this club and feels very much part of FC hence he hasnt gone alreay and played for so long when he should have been on the surgeons table if you know what i mean ..
if he goes its to be with his family and they do not need the money , not because of offers as he will choose who he wants to play for and believe me he would be a big star again in the NRL!!! they love him!!

My main issue was people saying we should use Berro's quota (if he leaves) on a 7. The idea of being understudy to Long and Horne would be impossible to sell to an Aussie young or old. Regardless of how many games he would no doubt play.
