| Quote Big Dave T="Big Dave T"I thought going back to 2008 Washy looked pretty pacey and took the line on well like a good 6 would. I think in 2009 his injuries made him look like he had bulked up and slowed down a little bit making him a better 13. Whichever position he plays, Washy would be in my starting 13 every week for his creativity, rugby brain and defensive work ethic, not to mention his leadership ability.'" Absolutely bang on Dave.

| Quote PAUL M="PAUL M"Absolutely, he won't be in the starting 13 but he should be.'"
As has been said before on this thread, how nice to be debating who should and who should not play in a position when there are at least two who could pull on the jersey on and excel in the position: e.g. at 13 you have Fitz and Washy (and, some would argue, Whiting) - nice to have choices like this.

| Quote GODS UNDERTAKER="GODS UNDERTAKER"Not point scoring just not letting facts get in the way, I dont place my opinion based upon what i read on here I place mine based upon having watched the lad via my season ticket and my travel to all but three away games last season which is in my humble opinion the only way a true reflection can be made upon a lads ability is it not , or all of a sudden has the Daily Star RL column become the basis of all RL knowledge.......
but as someone else said a post or two ago
RW is a tallented individual with bags more to offer the club than GH, TL, or washy and is well in front of many of the younger lads in the pecking order, I had this VERY conversation with RW in Hull Royal before Xmas and his opinion was "I know clearly what I have to do this season and what rich expects of me" that says it all to me!!
I hope thats not letting facts get in the way is it
'" Explain how whiting has bags more to offer than Washy?

| In my opinion Washbrook is a loose man (a very good one) who can fill in a 6. At stand off I would pick Horne over him everytime. Horne has had one bad season due to his diabetes and his injury from 2008. He will be a different player alongside a playmaker taking the pressure off him and allowing him to do his own thing.

Can and has sucessfully covered more positions than Washy has or can!
Is a better footie brain in my mind, washy looked ineffective and lost the majority of games he managed last term ( so did they all mind)
its My opinion RW is a much better all round footballer than Washy and 100% better tackler thats for sure

Agreed he is definately a 13 however with those in front of him where is he going to pick up game time other than through injury...
Agree 150% about Horne too, however I have to say he still looks totally washed out and does not seem to have gained any weight at all in my opinion, to be honest he looked poorly last i saw him in Dec! hope thats just his look now and not the illness

No real need for that, was there?
Quote Mild mannered Janitor="Mild mannered Janitor"Whatever your opinion of Paul Cooke as a person, even after being allowed to capitulate at rovers he is a far more skillful playmaker then Whiting.'"
I'm not claiming that this is necessarily wrong, but when has Whiting ever been used as a playmaker in order to make a direct comparison?
Quote Mild mannered Janitor="Mild mannered Janitor"To champion Whiting because of his reading of the game is clutching at straws. I'd like to think any team with top 4 asperations had players who could read the game.'"
You would like to think so, but the sad fact is that for the last few seasons we simply haven't. Apart from Whiting. Plus he is a natural footballer, something we have again been lacking. And before it gets mentioned, it isn't only a case of standing out in a poor side - Whiting's cleverness was equally evident during the 2005 campaign.
Valuable squad player at the very least.

I like Washy. Not as much as many do, but I like him nonetheless.
He has never looked like a good 6 IMO. Not a bad one by any means, but not someone you'd want as first choice there.
I'm given to understand that he pretty much feels the same way and does not see a move to 6 as playing to his strengths.

| Quote GODS UNDERTAKER="GODS UNDERTAKER"Correctly so too!! the lad won it for a darned good reason too and anyone who actually goes to matches can see that everytime he goes on the field, every club in the world has a number of players like RW as not all the squad can be Fitzys I am afraid but in RW we have one of the best !
RW is a very intelligent lad on and off the field and is a much better footballer than many here give him credit for , is much faster than many credit him for and bangs way above his weight but has suffered from a utility tag and lack of game time due to his awful injuries however this season he is definately going to get plenty of game time and will i am sure prove his worth and repay the undoubted confidence the whole club have in the lad!!
To call him world class is wrong, to call him a cheap utility is an insult to him also as he offers much more than just versitility, as a person you could not meet a nicer fella and as a player he offers much more than Washy IMO .
Lets let the season do the talking because i know RW plans just that !!'"
Congratulations on a very sensible post, have to say I agree on every comment you make and my hope is that he does get the game time as he has far far more to offer than Washy, lets not be blinkered by the 'local player' bit that has been our downfall so often. Personally I reckon RW will thrive alongside Longy and hope to see them given the chance to combine.
