| Quote: Chris28 "Is "decline" another word for "playoffs"?
We've no evidence that Leeds are on the decline or that we are on the up, other than the optimism of people on here and elsewhere based on the takeover/new coach/new signings. Since Agar left we haven't won a game.'"
However we are also Undefeated!!!

| Disappointing loss, however I am sure lessons will be learnt from this in the future.

| Symptomatic of the shoddy way in which the club, and the youth set up in particular, were run under the former administration. I've heard some real horror stories about the way the young players have been treated by the club previously.
At the end of the day, if he felt wanted, looked after, valued and that there were opportunites for him then he'd have stayed. I hope that this is the kick in the ass the club needs (if one were still needed) and that things are improved and quickly. To be a player in the youth structure of one of the biggest clubs in the game should be aspirational and currently it isn't.
Also p1sses all over those who believed that things were brilliant off the field under the former owners (something those of us who had close dealings in the past knew not to be true).
Thank god pearson took over when he did

| One good thing could come of this - now that inadaquacies have been identified, i bet that James Cunningham will now not leave, as had been rumoured

All of this is true. On the other hand, we're under new ownership with a new coaching setup and already had a commitment to work on improving all aspects of the club. You would have thought that would be enough for him to at least come back to the negotiations after hearing what Leeds had to offer. Must admit I'm inclined to say 'sod him' if he wants to leave that badly.

| Gary Hetherington went to Briscoe's house to sign him up according to Smailes on RH.

| Disappointing to see a good prospect leave the club but time will tell whether he made the correct decision.
Hopefully the good thing to come out of this is that the club are far more savvy in dealing with contracts of the Academy lads.
BTW I think people are being a bit carried away with the Kath Hetherington conspiracy.

| A promising youngster's contract should not
be allowed to expire, nor should negotiations be left until the penultimate
month before expiry.
Should have been signed months ago, amateurism at its worst.
No wonder Pearson is livid!!

Hetherington's obviously gone out of his way to make sure the signing happened could have made him an offer that's hard to refuse for a young kid. Its not like Briscoe is from Hull so has no attachment to the place and Leeds has a very good set up and is closer to Fev so a lot less travel involved day to day probably an easy sell for Gary.

Depends how he's been treat previously and by who. Most of the previous employees are still in place

I hope someone gets sacked for it. The club have been far too accepting of mistakes in the past

| Not sure how this can be blamed on the ineptitude of any individual at Hull. New deal talks were underway as the expiration of his contract approached. That's probably normal, isn't it? I'm guessing that usually there's no reason to re-sign most youngsters months before their contracts finish unless, as in this case, there's a crow peering over our every move.
The sinister edge to this has emerged at the Leeds end, with the news that an "external" (Pearson obviously wants us to question if the finger points at Kath) mole tipped off the Leeds board, with the result that he was visited at home by Gary. As that particular mole clearly has inside knowledge of not just Luke's but every contract at the Hull this is worrying at the very least. Not sure what the solution is, other than to revisit every contract and perhaps insert new clauses?
What Hull do need to look at is the willingness of the lad to be lured away - our shoddy youth facilities need a quick overhaul (already identified by Pearson). But more pertinently I'm guessing that the general culture of feeling valued and cherished within the youth set-up is lacking. It is this I imagine is the "mistake" the club has made historically.
