| The Grade A licence that the club achieved in the franchise application process demonstrates to me that all the pieces are in place for a club that should be challenging at the top end of Super League each and every season.
A top 4 finish should be the minimum requirement. Anything else, in my opinion, represents underachievement.
Since 2006 we have regressed dramatically as a club on the pitch to a point where we will almost certainly miss out on the (now top eight) play-offs for the second season running. For a club with any ambition this has to be considered totally unacceptable.
I still believe that our current squad has the ability to be at least challenging for a top 4 position. We spend to the maximum allowed on salaries, have a number of players who have performed at the very top levels within the sport, and have a fantastic youth set-up.
There are certainly issues on the playing side, particularly with the balance of the squad. We do need a top class half back (addressed for next season so credit there) and a number of top class forwards (Fitzgibbon certainly fit’s the bill but more are needed) but even taking that into account I do not believe that our current coaching set-up are getting anywhere near the best out of the players at their disposal.
The players didn’t perform for Peter Sharp either, or John Kear before him. Quite why the board thought Agar, a man who was assistant coach in both those regimes, was the answer I have no idea. To me continuity is something you want to promote within a successful, winning culture not in a failing, underachieving culture.
Perhaps he deserved a chance and the club granted that wish but I am far from convinced he has the skills or experience necessary to take us to the top.
So from my position as a fan who has no insight in to the running of the club, we need a completely fresh start in regard to the coaching set-up at the club. It could be that some players are not up to the task either (that much is obvious) but if the coach cannot get the best out of our current squad then why should we believe it would be any different with a different set of players?
Now is the time to bring in a top class coach with a proven track record of achievement at the highest level. A coach that can bring a new perspective, some fresh ideas, re-balance the squad, and get the best out of the players at his disposal.
You only have to look at champion teams in any sport to realise that the key ingredient to their success is the coach. I believe the board should look to bring in a coach who reflects our ambition and who can take this club back to where it belongs, which is challenging the Leeds’ and St Helens’ of this world at the top of SL, not scrapping it out at the lower end of the table.
Come on you Hull.

no we need a clean sweep of the coaching set up
Agar has been here since 2005, and will have had a major say in the way the players are trained under both Kear and Sharp.

If we got a new coach then Agar would have to go. It looks to me that our set of current players have no respect for him as a coach. So why keep him. The new coach would have to be free to A, Decide if he wants an assistant, and B If he does then he will want to choose his own assistant.

| Quote UllFC="UllFC"Kear wasn't the answer, as you say league form was poor
and at Wakefield i feel he gets overated, yes he did amazing work to keep them up, but look at last season, they didn't win after July...our fans would be livid if we had that form.
but still even though we were inconsistent then we at least had faith in his ability to get us motivated for big games, and personnel like Swain, Cooke, Kearney who could change games.'"
I'm not sure how you can overate a coach that saved the clubs very existence! If we would have gone down in a season where with 6 games left we were 1/10 with the bookies to go - we would never have got back in with the (utterly flawed) franchise system and the club may well have folded.
I guess his win with Hull in the challange cup, his win with Sheffield in the challange cup and his amazing escape were all flukes!
His signings have all been first class and we are now a well established mid table side that is progressing in every department.
I still laugh when i think of how you offloaded Kear to be replaced by Compo from last of the summer wine!

| I knew we were going to win when I saw the shots of the Hull players on the bench in the first half. They looked thoroughly hacked off. The Warrington bench looked the same when they came to Belle Vue, and Lowes was replaced soon after. The body language was awful.
One positive: I thought Jody Broughton looked very impressive for a young lad. He almost caught Brough when Raynor couldn't get near, and he had to come from the other side of the pitch.
Some people are just meant to be assistants. Maybe the clubs ought to do more of what the Aussies do: put a recent and top player in charge, with someone experienced as a back-up. Every assistant coach who gets promoted seems to fail.

I said he did an 'amazing' job keeping wakefield up, is that not praise enough?
he has always been good at lifting teams for big games (which all of his first season Wakefield games were) but he is still yet to show any consistency...Wakefield look good for a few weeks then revert back to the lower end of the table. And signings all first class? Peterson for one certainly isn't

Petersen is a very good player that has suffered with quite a serious injury- i reckon he will show his class over the remaining games.
If John Kear spoke with an ozzie accent he would have still bean in Cod Country - you lot would have been hailing him as the best thing since fish fingers and your club would be a real force. I thank god he was born in Yorkshire!

To be fair, if we had a good coach that had saved our club, we'd be pretty defensive about them!
