| Nice to see all my KR part timer mates jumping on the bandwagon, got to feel happy for their fans for getting there as in the end we all go watch some disappointing rugby in Hull and long for brighter days, and that 2013 semi was a great day for me and Saturday will be for them. However I wish with every fibre of my being that Grudgell never gets his greasy mits on any silverware and will be begrudgingly cheering Leeds come the final.

| Quote ="R.B.A"Sums you up then Wilf.
In the major finals that Hull have played in, I have never wanted you to win any but I have always been pleased for my black and white pals and their families that they got to experience it. Jealous too, but pleased for them nonetheless.
3 generations of my family heading down to London for Challenge Cup weekend. Most have never seen us play there. We know we wont win but it wont dampen our excitement or ruin our experience. You would even begrudge us that..
Small minded and bitter Wilf. Sorry.'"
Can't agree with this, I hated FC getting to Wembley, the 2 recent times they've been there are 2 chances they had to kill a hoodoo that really hurts them and its also a chance to rub our faces in it. I have planned holidays both those times purely to get out of town just in case the unthinkable happens. I'll admit when they play well, I'll congratulate them on a good performance but I'll never be happy about it or pretend to want anything other than them to lose.
I have nothing against FC fans, a lot of my best mates are cursed with being fans of them and I wish them no ill, I just enjoy seeing them disappointed.

Hope they get hammered at Wembley and I mean cricket score hammered .
Anyone wishing them good luck is not an FC in my eyes , I've got a lot of kr supporting Mates who I love but when it comes to rugby (well that's s different story )
Missed the semi and will be away for the final .. Thank god !!!!

| I'm glad Rovers got to the final and I'll be rooting for them to beat Leeds, you might think that declassifies me as an FC fan but I'm thinking anything positive for the city as a whole (even though I no longer live there) & beating leeds far outweighs any dislike for the red & white bstds.
I like rugby league, I like watching competitive matches, of the two teams I dislike Leeds far more than Rovers.
Wll the Rovers fans gloat and shove it in the faces of FC fans IF they win, of course, why should that bother you, really, it's not THAT big a deal in the grand scheme of life.
And why should we compare ourselves to the oft viscious hatred that is embodied in the world of soccer, sorry but I'm not of that ilk, that doesn't mean you can't be passionate about your team and your dislike of your rivals and I'll happily see Rovers lose games and laugh at their misfortunes and not have any problem with FC fans wanting them to get battered in the final (& KR fans vice versa) but for me I just don't feel that way.

Think your wrong....KR fans THINK it matters.
I was 5 years old when that match took place and couldn't care less, and I don't know one FC who even gives it a second thought.
I was at Cardiff in 2005 and trust me, the feeling that day was pure euphoria - didn't matter a jot it wasn't at Wembley.
Interestingly enough - after the game drinking in the pubs around the ground with all sorts of fans (as is the challenge cup) a man and his wife walked past the pub full of FC fans in KR tops, needless to say they got some banter - to which of course all the man could say was 'but you've never won at Wembley!'
It didn't spoil a thing, 30 second later they were gone - just like the 1980 final.

I think he's right. With every passing visit to Wembley that we fail to win comes a bigger sense of despair for some of us. I personally am not interested so much in a Grand Final win. What I and many like me want is a Wembley win. Maybe you had to be emotionally involved with Wembleys 80, 82, 83 & 85 to get that. I say maybe.
80 vs that lot which we will forever be reminded of. 82 when Sammy did kick the crucial goal. 83 when we should have won and then 85 which we are always told was the best final ever. It hurts like hell. The only final we've been to since then that I didn't expect us to win was 2008. With the exception of 05 it has been incredibly heartbreaking and boy do they love to remind us.
As for wanting them to win. Do me a favour Mr bump. You've been taking in too much Hertfordshire air. Do as I did and get away and move to Sussex it will unscramble your mind

Perhaps the emotional tie to the 80's has an impact, as I say all I can remember is getting dumped at Grannies for the weekend whilst parents went.
That said, like most things in life they only 'get to you' if you let them. Admitting it openly on a internet forum is asking for it!
My point was the only time I ever hear about that result is when a KR fan is around, I've never sat in the pub with my dad and his mates listening to them lament about the 1980 final, in fact the final against Wigan is the one FC fans I know tend to look back on, where as KR fans cling to it like some kind of religion. The OP suggested 'it hurts' FC fans that they have never won at Wembley, you may be one of them that feels it, but your the first one for me!
(maybe you should just pretend your not bothered!)

| I would think hull fc fans have differing views about never having won at Wembley, the few I know absolutely hate Rovers fans reminding them. I do KNOW however the hull players really want to 'get this monkey off their backs'. I think the Hull Daily Mail article by one of the players before one of CC games earlier this year when the player giving the interview stated they were desperate to right this record to stop Rovers fans reminding them in the derbies.

Well the circle if friends I have of a B&W persuasion think very differently and would love to get the monkey of their back. Maybe they're the exception but as I say I think most honest fans would say it hurts, annoys whatever. Irrelevant at this point anyway, if we win at the end of the month we'll have something else to harp on about for a while.

| Good luck to KR. Their run reminds me of ours in 2005. They've beaten some good sides, and if they can overcome a Leeds team on a mission to see Sinfield and Peacock off on a high they will deserve the trophy.
The Wembley thing is a red herring. That was a long time ago, and what happens now bears no resemblance to then. I want a strong rivalry in the city. That will stage off any motives to merge. Whatever the result on the 29th, I hope it's a good game and the best team wins.

There are no crap views, that is the best bit of the stadium, the rest is all very meh, IMO it's a souless place, looks bloody awful and not 'iconic' & it certainly isn't 'awesome', or 'magical'.
The pitch has always been bang average, for a national stadium that cost virtually a billion pounds it sucks, the Millenium stadium is better in every aspect aside from maybe the view which is on a par.
As for winning at wembley just to kill the hoodoo, I couldn't care less, winning wherever the final would be is just as gratifying, and yes I remember every one of the finals in between including sitting on the coach almost in tears as a young teen because I couldn't get into Ellend Rd.
I'd be more ecstatic with a GF win though tbh.

Why?
Serious question as I've never understood this. All that bothers me is winning or losing, not the venue.

I obviously can't speak for anyone but myself. Personally I have lived in and around London since 1990. In the past 26 years I have tried spreading the word of Rugby League & especially Hull FC. Most people that are aware of RL know Wigan they seem to think everyone and everything revolves around Wigan which in all honesty when I moved down it did.
In the last 26 years I have missed 2 finals and not missed one at Wembley. 1 at Twickenham & one in Scotland have been missed. I will not be going this year.
I absolutely love Wembley. Towers or arch. It's a magical place. I certainly don't subscribe to the northern feeling (from some) of why wasn't it in the north. As a kid growing up I dreamed of playing at Wembley for Hull FC. That was and always will be the pinnacle for me. I didn't make it as a player. I do though want to see it as a fan. Winning the cup in 82 was special. Winning in 05 was amazing. But for me personally seeing my club win in my favourite stadium in my favourite city in front of many of my southern friends but more importantly surrounded by my family who have supported hull FC through thick and lots of thin would be a dream come true. Until that day Hull FC have my undivided attention. I have though vowed that when it happens I will be able to rest easy and probably end my fanatical support. So maybe the longer it takes the better it will be.
That's my story. It's all about the venue. Some won't understand others will get it. But I won't change until it happens. I just hope it happens for my parents as well.

Funny thing is I was born in London, grew up in Essex, and don't feel any particular attachment to Wembley at all. But then I've never been particularly sentimental about sporting venues. For me it's the sport itself and the occasion that's important. I guess that's why I have genuine difficulty in understanding the whole 'never won at Wembley' thing.
On the plus side it makes me immune to the main/only KR 'banter'.
