The venue was fine . There was never going to be a big crowd for that game .
It had to be played at a smaller venue .

Although a decent stadium, it's possible in the worst located stadium in the country, in an awful area, with absolutely nothing near by to eat and drink, hard to get too by public transport and poor parking.

40 years of waiting ended on 27th August 2016. The day my dreams became reality. The joy was greater thanks to the pain of many years of waiting.:

Poor choice. There is a lot wrong with the RFL that I CBA to go into but...

The Lightstream stadium on a Friday night?
That means many RL fans having to travel on the M62 on a Friday night. The sooner clubs realise what a mare that stretch of road is on a Friday the better.
Hull fans will NOT travel there in numbers for reasons that are entirely reasonable to Hull fans but not the RL family.
Yes the opposition was second rate, BUT the AUSTRALIANS are the best team in world rugby. Either code imho. They are playing in our country. Even without JT and others, they are the best of the best. We should have all their games in 20k plus stadiums. Deals should be on with all amateur clubs to get kids there to witness the best.
As a kid I saw all the test matches in 82 and our match and Rovers match. It was a joy to witness. We don't have tours anymore so we should encourage as many people as possible, especially kids to go and watch the best in action and live in the flesh. The Lightstream was never the stadium to do that. The KC is empty this week, yet not used. You just know the RFL will hold it against the City when games are dished out in the future.

I'd have had it played either on Saturday or Sunday at the KC / Headingley if in Yorkshire. Or Wigan if over the other side. If they were not viable then get it in Cumbria or Scotland and encourage some new fans. Or feed the desire of the Cumbrians.

It's far from a decent stadium with restricted views but that is only part of the problem. Traffic and parking is horrendous. Thanks to work I didn't get onto Marfleet Lane bridge until about 7:20, then it was just a horrendous jam and a scramble to find a parking spot. Given this mess I was thinking of a 10,000 plus crowd and I ended up getting into the ground just as they kicked off.

So what wasn't on the pitch was a pretty grim experience, poor stadium, difficult to get to and the only "atmosphere" the dobbin faithful booing (and worse) Walker.

On the bright side even the RFL must realise now that this dump is unfit for top class rugby, especially night games.

I went and took a Scottish friend I work with. Still I'm not sure what crowd people actually expected but I'll add in to context that 5,762 was the attendance for the Australian world cup quarter final held in Wrexham 3 years ago for people to ponder over..

Be interesting to know of the fans that are complaining about the attendance how many actually decided to go. Hard to criticise the attendance when you don't add to the attendance and make the effort yourself.?

Still Friday night was run in a farcical way. Matchdays at Rovers were we've filled the stadium have been far better ran. The main issue i saw was from the RFL insisted on Parking permits for the car park, for people who are unaware our Car Park is huge and spans the length of the whole west side of the stadium then spans round and covers the area behind the south stand. All the sidestreets backed up and the whole area became a bottleneck. On walking through our carpark 10 minutes before kick off the car park wasnt even half full me & the missus were flabbergasted. How many fans would have thought about getting a parking permit prior to the match?

TBF, there was still more for an atmosphere than there was a Huddersfield. And also, hand on heart, I wouldn't have considered attending that game wherever it was played. I think it's a reasonable crowd for the fixture, but it is a shame we couldn't find a way to host it in Scotland.

Hull KR Chairman Neil Hudgell, August 26th, 2014 said.. "In fact, the days of us signing any players from across the river are over. Our fans are loyal, passionate and only interested in one club. Taking players from our nearest rivals doesn't fit in with that brief.":8570.jpg

Should have held it at Ibrox with free entry to anyone who had spent the entire day on Friday in one of the Glasgow Wetherspoons' pubs.

Might not have made any money but the atmosphere would have been tremendous and the Aussies would have shat themselves.

Can probably draw a line under this one now. It was a poorly executed mistake and one unlikely to be repeated in the foreseeable.

Out of interest how many of you that have complained about the size of the crowd bothered to go yourselves to support the international game in our own city? Indeed how many of you bother to support your own team at Craven Park? (I'm old school) Before you start with the poor facilities on offer, how many of you still go to Wakey and Cas despite what's on offer there?

Attendances for international games have been struggling for a while. Chuck in the Friday night and Scotland being the opposition and it's no real surprise that the stadium wasn't rammed.

Hang on...

In the last five major international matches held in the UK before last weekend we had seen:

- the largest crowd for any international Rugby League game, ever;
- the largest attendance, by some distance, for a Kiwis series since 1947;
- the largest ever attendance for an England/GB vs Kiwis game.

The crowd at Hull KR was somewhat disappointing but the facts are that international RL crowds in this country are at record levels.

FWIW Friday's crowd was also greater than both of the following:

GB vs France, Headingley, 1991 (att: 5,284)
GB vs France, Boulevard, 1992 (att: 5,250)

Completely agree, had it been held in the KC they might have had a 1000 more turn up at best and the atmosphere would have been as bad if not worse. It was a throw away fixture for the RFL and they treat it as such.
