| Quote: hull smallears "Anyone else think that this year and next year are pretty pivotal to us? I know we have some decent youth coming through and time will tell how they will go, but end of next year we will lose Ellis, Minni and Pritchard. Add into that Washy, Yeamo and whomever else either wants to leave or we naturally get rid of........Houghton will be 31/32
I just feel with the way things are with some clubs on a lower ebb, we really need to kick on now whilst we have genuine great players playing to a higher standard than we are used to. We have a chance, we really have a chance.
I cannot believe how excited I am for wire next week. Been a long while since I felt like this.'"
Houghton won't be 31 for another 4 years yet.

| Quote: knockersbumpMKII "Said at the beginning of the year that if we don't do the business this year then Pearson will be up poop creek, expectation from fans is massive right now and the pressure to perform for all people at the club is building as that expectation rises as shown by the posts/threads. IF, IF we fall away that could really do the club a lot of harm even though beginning of the season most had us 5/6/7th and right now we are way ahead of our wildest dreams.
If we don't win anything how will fans feel given were we stand right now, given the lower expectation the last time we got to a final on the back of an injury ravaged season and no superstars(Briscoe was our best player granted)
The downside of signing players from outside the club as a fix to the ailing support and lack of success means that it has stunted somewhat the development of the upcoming players. We've had plenty of debutants but only Green/Bowden/Hadley have cemented any type of regular game time since their debuts in 2012/13, Adbul got a bit of a go last season, some down to injuries but is behind others for the forseeable future, Logan seems to be further back in the queue now also, Fash and Downs have had very limited chances, Lancaster isn't further up the pecking order, sure we have kids signed up but realistically how much game time are they going to get in the next 2 years with who we have signed up already unless we have severe injuries?
That leaves us with signing more experienced players, it's a catch 22 situation.
Still, we could win the treble this year and slaughter the Australian's in the WCC
Even if we do have a complete drop off in form, I've already been more entertained this season than any season since 2007 (2010 & 2012 were decent efforts however) and I feel even with a setback such as a bad injury run, a 50/50 call not going our way in a cup or playoff game etc we would be back next year with a couple of new additions ready to go at it again.
And on your young players point, yes some haven't had a lot of opportunities, but them just being at the club pushing for places has made some of the senior players up their game. Yeaman for example knows if he has a bad run Logan will get his place back, whereas for years he was an automatic name on the team sheet regardless. I'd expect Pryce and Michaels to leave which opens up more opportunities for the backs.
Second row is though for any young player to break in to and some of the youngsters may have to leave to get first team rugby, but Minichello/Manu/Ellis/Pritchard are some of the best players we've had at the club and Hadley and Green have improved massively, so it's a good 'problem' to have!

I think Wire have the edge simply because they've been in far more play-off football than us in recent years. Be unimaginable IMO for a team that finished 8th after 30 games last year to suddenly perform well all year and win play-off games.

| I said on the Rovers forum, we need to win something this season or next or it will be a real disapointment.
For me this is the best SQUAD we have had since we got into SL, and won't get a better chance than this year.
Looking dead set for the top 4, good chance of a CC semi, will we get a better chance, if we can do OK for injuries we have a really good chance this year.

| Wigan will be there, after we beat them they have loads of tough games away from the DW and I though they might struggle, they have won the last 3 including 2 tough away games at Cas and Salford.

| I bought my season pass for this year more out of a sense of duty after the dross that's been served up in the last few years.
I'm pleased I did though as there has been so much more entertainment to watch. I'm just surprised that the crowds aren't drifting back - are people really sticking to their "i'll not go while he's still in charge" line?

| There is definitely a big opportunity this year but wigan have plenty of big game mentality and experience and wire have a much better half back pairing than us which I think will probably be the difference when it matters. Still, a top 4 finish would be an amazing turnaround from where we've been and I'm still hopeful that we can maybe have another wembley trip this year

I think the OP is right though and think we will struggle to replace Mini and Ellis in particular like for like, so this is as good a chance as we'll have.'"
I agree replacing the likes of Ellis & Mini is a very very tough task but maybe this is also one of the reasons Motu was in Oz. I would like to think the coaching staff and club are already planning for that eventuality, especially seeing Leeeds struggle this season.
I do think it's Hulls best chance in over a decade to win serious silverware. As long as we keep the right mental attitude put in 80minute performances it's ours to lose. Biggest tests are Wire away and Catalan in the cup.
In a way the pressure is off a little as the team gave already achieved the goal of top 8 however expectation is now up due to the way they've performed so far.
For me though this season has already made me enjoy coming to see the games unlike the last couple of seasons.
Onwards and upwards COYH

No comparison to Leicester IMO, we've been an SL side since 1998 and have big resources, its just we've under achieved for so long that makes this year a surprise. We're more like an Everton or a Tottenham, used to be trophy winners with big, loyal fanbases but now spend a lot of time in mid-table trying to catch up with the big guns.

I agree Warrington have the edge due to experience, but I also think if Catalan manage to finish in the Top2 then they are odds on for the Grand Final as it'll be very tough for anyone to go to Perpignan in hot conditions in a one-off semi final game.

Isn't the match the weekend of 1st October? Warmer than here, but not July heat intensity I'd have thought.

The comparison was near bottom of the league to top.

| The french aren't playing particularly well and are the club most likely to drop out of the top 4 IMO (other than us when we have our usual meltdown over injuries or some such problem)
