| Quote: UllFC "Too early to extend his deal and this contract is too long in my opinion.
We're having a good run, the rugby is undoubtedly the best it's been for a few years, and he has done a good job sorting out the discipline...but this doesn't completely gloss over the last two poor seasons, and he is yet to deliver in games where the pressure is really on such as cup games and the Super8s.'"
But how long do you wait? Another week to see if we get knocked out of the Cup? Even then we're still top four in the league. Another two months to see if we drop to sixth? Sack him at the end of the season and then try to bring a top coach in four weeks before pre season training?
At least now we have some stability.

| On his appointment, Pearson said Radfords first job was to sift out the dead wood and bring a professional culture to the club. This was always going to happen in the background. Pearson has maintained this stance and repeatedly stated Radford was doing a great job behind the scenes. We are now seeing the fruits of this on the pitch.
The contract extension is deserved. 2 years would have been better, but long term stability at any sporting club cannot be underestimated.

Love the way people say there was so much "deadwood" but finished 6th and cup final
Weve done well but if Gentle has this squad wed be top 2 without a doubt

Of course there is a doubt. For one thing we wouldn't have this squad. Shaul wouldn't be here for one thing.

But thats the point, we wouldn't have this squad. The recruitment over the last 3 years has been pretty good, better than previous regimes. Of the signings gentle made, is it just Thompson and Ellis who are still around?

| He was always going to get an extension. 1, 2 or 3 years is largely irrelevant as it's a results based game and if things drop off significantly he'll be sacked anyway. I'm still not convinced he's a great coach and that we've been as good as we should have been under him but he deserves a new contract

| Reminds me of when Peter Gentle got a contract half way through the season after we hadn't reached anywhere or won anything yet.

| We can speculate on what might have been, but we can't say for certain.
I am pleased for Lee. He's taken a lot of stick and I feell at times rightly so. I am a little surprised at the length of the deal. Adam has had his fingers burnt a few times, by having to pay people off. So three years seems a long time in that respect. He clearly though has a lot of faith in Lee.
As Lee said though us fans are an odd lot. Win a couple and we are looking to bring cups home. Lose a few and we are looking to sack the coach. I guess half way through the season and looking to go second tonight he deserves another contract, but 3 years?
I can't shift this feeling I have that I can not give him full credit for what is happening on the pitch at the moment. I guess after years of dross I fully expect the wheels to come off at some point soon. (I clearly don't wish for that, but I think most long standing fans understand my sentiment).
I wish him well and genuinely hope that he leads us to silverware. Cerrtainly this season we look like we are at least capable of mounting a challenge. (we have a very tough few weeks when it could go horribly wrong.) But I simply can't shift this nagging doubt in my head that 3 years is too long.
It will be interesting to see who his backroom staff are as we move forward. Will the same faces be retained or will we look to bring in one or two new faces to freshen things up? Or will the likes of Ellis, Whiting even Yeaman look to move in.

Is 6th good enough?
We would have continued to finish 6th or lower with the way the recruitment was going under Gentle.

Ridiculous statement - of course there is doubt.
As for Radford - while he undoubtedly deserves a new contract, three years is too long IMO. I'd have been happy with a one year extension, and moderately content with two.

Not sure whether you're on a wind up, but, with a good win tonight, Radford can take us to 2nd.

I suppose as Jake says, if Pearson doesn't think Radford is taking us forward he will act.

How do you know, we still might of brought Motu in, and signed the same players. Decent deal after 2 very poor seasons and half a decent one, lets just hope we continue to progress as we have this season

| I always thought that gentle wasn't that bad due to the cup final but this last year since we have been playing attractive and entertaining rugby I can see just how boring and uninspiring we were a few years ago. I am really enjoying the style we are playing and the great young players that are coming through.
Radders has given those players a chance and taken a couple of years to get them to gel. If we keep on the same path with the same philosophy then I think there will be some success. Happy for radders.
If we beat Catalans we will be at least 3rd. If we beat them by 26 points we will be 2nd. We have a great team at the moment.

| At the end of the day, you have to credit Radford for his work this season so far. I think a 2 year deal would have been more appropriate, but Pearson will have built stipulations into the contract I am sure.
At least we have got our business done early, re-signings nailed down and looking forward to a consistency in the playing and coaching staff we haven't seen for a while. It worked for Leeds!
