| Quote: PAUL M "I'm not blaming Gentle btw just saying that he is in charge of these performances so has to take credit/criticism just like the players do. I take your point on squad overhaul but there were only four players who are leaving us next year in that 17, that's not that many if the players attitude is wrong isnt it up to the coach to spot that and ensure it's put right or they are not picked.
For me it was the sort of display that happens once a season and even normally reliable players made basic errors. I don't think they need driving off and dumping somewhere becuase of one game.'"
That for mine is worrying.

| Turner, Horne, Seymor, Foster. Westermans on thin ice.

Not really.
We'll have a virtually new back line.

Turner should not be picked again this season. Doesn't seem interested and is really inconsistent.
No point going into the Horne debate - it's all been said. He doesn't do anything wrong, but he's not going to break the line and go the length anymore -which was always his best asset. Still the best fullback at the club IMO.
Seymour was always going to average. He wasn't going to suddenly transform into a super creative player because we'd signed him. I was gobsmacked earlier on in the season when everyone was raving about his performances, which I always thought was poor.
Foster is like Sharp without the enthusiasm. He'll always be prone to massive gaffes, but he won't be here much longer anyway.
There is no doubt that Westerman has been poor for us, but it only stands out so much because of his price tag. He slips off too many tackles and doesn't drive the ball in particularly strongly. I still think he could come good if we gave him a more creative role though.

All depends how you look at it, really.
Â
I’m assuming the 4 are Turner, Manu, Foster, and O’Meley, although there are also uncertainties over Seymour, McGoldrick, and Aspinwall. Either way, the latter 3 are unlikely to be in next year’s first choice 17 if the club’s recruitment goes as they seem to be hoping. You can then add to that Lineham, Crooks, probably Pitts, and maybe even Horne depending on who comes in.
Â
Then we have Houghton and Briscoe, who had uncharacteristic poor games. It is a rare occurrence though, they are typically 2 of our best players, so there’s no reason to have any concern about them being in our team next year.
Â
That leaves Lynch, Watts, Heremaia, and Westerman. IMO 3 of those were our best players, and the other is not as bad as people make out and will get better.
Â
So it’s not that worrying if you stay calm and assess things.

I hope that with better halves he'll get the ball quicker enabling him to be more creative on the edges.
Why we're using him as a crash 2nd rower is anyone's guess, Tickle can do that job, Westy can't.

| Quote: FC Wembley 08 "I meant he should be played in positions he cannot handle (the coach's decision not the player).
I've attended many games thanks I'd wager that over the last 5 years probably more than you!!
IMO Tom is vastly overrated. He is not world class, he's just a very good winger.
He's always been poor under the high ball, he is poor defensively both with positioning and tackling. He's not actually THAT fast
That said he is freakishly strong and shows some individual brilliance and skill.
Clearly has talent and potential but he has many things to work on before he's anywhere near world class.'"
I don't live in the Hull area, but I still get to around 17/18 games a year. I see enough to know that you have continued with a knee jerk reaction.
Tom Briscoe is NOT POOR under the high ball and he is NOT POOR defensively.
For his pace, look at then footage of the games at Castleford (this season and last season) or the wakey away game last season, or the Salford game last season. Long distance tries where he beat the opposition with his pace.
I don't think many have claimed he is world class, but he is a damn sight better than how you describe him.

| Dont get the critisism of Westerman on here. I think hes a great player whos trying to adapt to a new role that Gentle has given him. He also spent a large part of early season out so is playing catch up. Deffo a player to keep and for the future.
Players to go though are
Seymour
Horne
O'Meley
Turner

I don't feel that it is a knee jerk reaction. Search my posts and you'll see that I've long been concerned about some aspects of Tom's game.
He's not a bad player by any means but he's a little bit 'rocks & diamonds'. He is weak defensively and very poor under the bomb. Watch him without blinkers on.

| As a group the players at the club over the years have seemingly been unable to motivate themselves , learn from experience or from the coaching staff and supposed leaders that the club have brought in. We've changed the coaching staff , the physio team and the management but nothing has actualy changed. We still struggle to pass quickly from acting half , we still end up with the wrong player in possession on the last tackle and we still have no kicking game , we still generally come out on the wrong side of the penalty count and we still only get up for "big" games. The only common denominator is the players. It seems either they're all as bad as each other or the more consciencious are unable to positively influence the group. I hope that the players coming in can redress the balance and guess that if they are the right players and we can bring 8 or 9 in at once then there is a chance of breaking the mould , something that piece meal changes haven't been able to achieve. Hopefully PG knows after his season in charge the players that need to go but one would imagine it's more than 4.

| The biggest change that needs to take place is the culture & ethos around the club. The winning mentality has just not been there.
I think PG & AP recognize this, & a lot of the changes to the infrastructure seem to reflect this.

To say Briscoe is VERY POOR under the bomb suggests you have not attended as many games as you claim. That is a blinkered attitude. You are in a minority of one with this opinion. Having an opinion is fine, but you have to back it up, which you have not done.
He catches the vast majority which go to him. He has an awful game on Saturday, live with it.
Will Sharp was poor under the high bomb in the early rounds of last season, hence he got targetted by the opposition and Briscoe didn't as he was more competant.

He's certainly more improved under the high-ball than when he had that mare at the Willows in 2010.

I agree with this, has anyone given a thought to the blazing sun in his eyes on Saturday? Even the commentators mentioned and showed how bad it was!
