Thing is, most NRL clubs are close to the cap already. A few might find berths with Union clubs, but the season is half over (in Europe at least).
Next year would see the big difference - perhaps Berrigan was just ahead of the game (assuming the rumours are true). |

Why?...Berro has not been officially released,so i imagine Hull wont be in a position to sign a back up just yet. |

With no more signings we have Washy to cover 9 and Nicklas to cover 6 and 7.
Signing injury prone halves hasn't worked for us for a number of years, maybe it's time to let Nicklas and the other kids that we have got to have a decent run for 12 months. |

Somebody on here i think quoted Mark O'Meley as saying that Mason would arrive here when Rovers come up with the money. Maybe he was meaning the extra money to make up for the (not entirely unexpected) shortfall due to this legislation? I'd tell him not to bother and sign Berrigan personally.  |

I wouldnt have thought Mason would make a fuss publicly like he has (he was quoted in the Oz press) about cash outstanding if it was a case of Rovers not stumping up what they owed. I'd guess it's Rovers trying to fit additional cash under the cap rather than an offshore payment to still secure his services.
There has to be a real risk though that SL will now struggle to attract the top Aussie stars like we have been doing and things will all revert back to the 80s and early 90s where English clubs mainly get average quality reserve grade players. I'd hope that in the current climate immigration wouldnt allow average players in the country and it might just force UK clubs to 'grow their own'
Lets be honest, looking at the standard of our International team we need to invest more in our own!!

Lets be honest, looking at the standard of our International team we need to invest more in our own!! ![]()
With the imminent increase in TV rights to the NRL, a larger salary cap and the increase of teams from 16 to 18 there is a realistic proposition that the better English players in Super League may well be attracted by the Aussie dollar as well.

Those signings were few and far between though. Current superleague every club has 3 or 4 of them.
Mason was quoted as saying something along the lines of waiting to agree or waiting for an initial payment or something along those lines. It was quoted on your forum on the Mason thread. As i said, dont think that will have been Rovers intentionally holding back a payment, more an amended payment needed due to this loophole closure.
