You need only look to where he has coached since to get an indiciation of his actual ability.

I think it's easy to dismiss this notion that McRea wasn't a good coah because he didn't win anything with us. However what he did do is merge two teams into one and started in motion what we later achieved (and should have built on since). He did this while advocating the playing of some great Rugby, in my view we were a joy to watch particulary with the like of Best, Smith, Panther, Prescott and Grimaldi / Maher(sp).

I loved top watch that side play and was genuinly entertained....even when we lost....unlike now!

To be a first grade coach for all the years Mcrae has been suggests his is a good coach and some of the players he signed were class but dont think Hull should try to get him back.

Poor ongoing recruitment since those times has meant that the side he had then was far better than the side we have now. Hopefully we are starting to hire the players who can get us back to that level.

Agreed i'd have hin as DOR if anything. But for some to suggest he isn't a good coach is plain silly

I think he would be more suited as a DOR with a young coach to work with. McRaes contacts in the RL world on both hemispheres would be invaluable.

Quite a few Aussie clubs do this when hiring a young coach. Have an experienced DOR to help and advise.

Quote: Standee "we won nothing

You have to remember that the super league in general is a lot more competetive now than it was then, maybe not in terms of teams winning the trophies but in terms of results. You don't see a fraction of the hammerings and one sided games that we got then. I'm sure if we could transport that team and style of rugby to the present day we'd be right up there. I still wouldn't want him back though.

If anything we need a total change so no thanks.Saying that i would still like Agar to have his chance into next season.

Hall reminds me of Best at times - his strengths and frailties

I used to enjoy going to the Boulevard back in 96 when we had the backline of Chris Kitching, Leigh Deakin, Darren Carter, Terry Manning, Tevita Vaikona, Dave Webber and Mark Hewitt.

That backline put over 50 past Wakey that year.

Dont want it back though... icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif
