| Quote: carl_spackler "TBH I think this is the root problem with the negativity about our recruitment on here. When people mention good players it is quickly dismissed as unrealistic, but suggest s**t ones and it's practically being accepted as fact as an assumption that we'll be the best/(only?) option for them.
I think we must be the only set of fans who would have some unhappy with recruitment/retention when we so far have only one confirmed departure, have captured the number 1 hottest property on the market, and a 20-year-old on the fringes of the England squad. We've been though 4 seasons of dour, depressing, unambitious rugby, and we've finally seen some progress this year. People need to be prepared to wait for more (which will come), and not start throwing their toys out of the pram just because we might not catch everyone up in the space of 18 months after putting ourselves years behind under the last regime.
(To be clear, I'm not saying you fall into the latter category. I quoted your post because I think the realistically comment is the key. Too many seem to be making the jump from something being believable, to it true. If we sign every realistic target we've been linked with now, we'll break the combined salary cap for the entire league.)'"
Now I'm happy in the knowledge that Sam Tomkins will be our full back for the foreseeable future

Jason Smith also turned down a request to come back to SoO AFTER playing for Hull

As I said, which of the current SOO players do people honestly see coming here? I can't seen any.

Maybe not, but the simple fact is money talks, if the money was right it would/could happen.

After he went back, I think. He was fooking awesome, as well. Won the game on his own.

| I want Benji Marshall but would settle for a young promising h/back from the NRL who I believe we could get a lot cheaper than players like Chase who is attached to a stupid transfer fee, he is good but not that good imo.

I don't see any coming over any more, that's why I agreed with your general point. To say that we haven't had current SOO players and that it doesn't happen was not entirely true, though.

But the point most seem to be missing is that the combination of increased NRL salary cap, deteriorating favourable exchange rate, and the tax loophole being closed means that it is not really possible for the money to be right. Not unless you want to sign 1 NRL star and surround him with cheap s**te.

imo i think chase is a wigan player next year going by his article on bbc sport wich would pi55 me off if i was a castleford fan i wud like him here but cant see it and other than that it looks like holdsworth or a young lad from nrl whos not well known but thats usually a good thing. they tend to not be a massive hit when they come over with big expectations

If rumours on here are to be believed that is exactly what we are going to do
