| Quote: Garry Brindley Esq. "I fully agree, but since RL these days is a squad game where the utility role very much exists, your remark is rendered irrelevant.
Besides, I fail to see what any of that has to do with your original comment that 'the only way forward for Whiting is to nail down a position', which suggests that you think he has no future performing his current role for us. I was curious to know why you felt like that and I'm still waiting for an answer.
By the way, since you asked, I've had a look at your spelling and there are a few mistakes in there. I can't be doing this for you every time though, maybe you could get your lad to proof-read your posts for you in future
Well you know, I thought I should write in Swahili to make myself understood to you, glad you could interpret.
Also, don't be too quick to think I were making suggestions, quite presumptious really and nothing of the sort. But glad you get it that utility is a 'role' not a position.
As for Whiting, which was the original topic here, I do feel that he certainly has a future here however, in order for him to progress as a player he needs to find a position which is more nailed-on such as S/R or L/F. Incidentally, Whiting himself said that not too long ago.
Also, who the hell are you to say that my remarks are not relevant?
On the patronising side more like.

| There must be one big signing to come. The fact that we have got Radford off the cap and are trying to release Obst must mean a decent signing.
Can't see why we would want to release these 2 average players to sign Tony Martin plus 1 other average signing.
I expect(actually I'm praying) that Tony Martin is the pre-arranged downer that will make the next signing appear gargantuan and make fans run in droves for their passes

I think the timing of the radford retirement and the martin signing probably mean we had to do the first before we could do the 2nd, meaning that cap space is tight. mcrae says he will be happy to make his other signing in december or january so maybe he needs obst off the cap to do it?

| If we do have one more major signing left to do what do people think we should use it on ? I did think s/r before we let radders go . Wonder if it's the other half of the 2 signings a lot of people were saying we were signing . Gareth Ellis ? Can't see it myself .

We need a replacement for Fitz which isn't easy to do. We really need to have two forwards coming in.
We did need a quality replacement for Gleeson but never mind

| He may not be the big name that everyone's been discussing, but that is half the problem, that's all it's been a un realistic discussion with wish list names like Lyon and Gasnier, not the club! Martin is a good centre who's played that position for all his career, his stats are not great mainly due to the poor lo end clubs he's found himself with over the last few years, but put him with some good ball players and I bet we see Sharpy bag Fair few tries next season. I reckon we will bring in a relatively big name 2nd rower from oz to finish our recruitment!

The club have hardly tried to douse the flames of expectation though have they?
Quote: Richo "Talk of internationally acclaimed centres and more forwards to bolster their options up front have been the top of most people’s list but McRae says they are looking at a number of options.'"

Players don't usually 'find themselves' with 'poor low end' clubs by accident.

Do you think that the fact that he's played for London, Wakey and Crusaders rather than Wigan, Wire and Saints is just a pure accident?
He didn't "find himself" at those clubs. That is the level of his ability and it is certainly a show of our ambition for 2012.

Not necessarily. Whilst it's not a signing I would have made, it might just be the case that Gentle intends to play Whiting in the back row and he feels that going into the season with only Turner for the centre spot would leave us short of options. If there was no one else available to sign, that is. It's not a view I subscribe to particularly, but it doesn't mean that we're aiming for 8th again either.

| I like Whiting, but as a squad member for his utility value, I think if we are going to be serious contenders then we need better than Whiting for the first choice 17, but no doubt he'd still get into the 17 as the inevitable injuries occur. However, the only positions him he should play are at loose man or in the second row, but not on the wing or in the centres, backs need to be fast, he isn't.

I see what you're saying and I wouldn't subscribe to it either but whichever way I look at it, it is a very very underwhelming signing indeed.
