| Quote: HU8HFC "Having thinking about the news which broke over the weekend, i certainly think they are positives in the appointment of Myler.
Firstly, we didn't have a DoR previously, that in itself means it is an upgrade on what we had before. It allows AP and the DJ to get on with which, to their credit, they are actually good at, which is further sourcing marketing and further investment etc. Fresh out the game, Myler has been a part of several big and successful clubs, meaning he knows what foundations are needed to build from. I would also like to think that Myler is well connected, he's been around the modern game for a long time and would be able to reach out to recruitment targets on both sides of the world. I quite like the fact that he has no connection to Hull prior to this appointment, with completely fresh ideas. There is also the investment which appears may come hand in hand with his appointment.
Of course, the elephant in the room is that this is a complete rogue appointment , in which it will be Mylers first off-file job at a club, and talk about been chucked in the deep end. This is arguably the hardest job in Rugby League currently, the task at hand is colossal, could it be too much to handle for someone who has zero experience in being in this role?
Overall, its certainly one that's caught peoples attention, he will have the support from the vast majority of us. I am hopeful that he is given the funds to properly help in rebuilding this club.'"
Its a joke and nepotism at its worst.
DOR in the clubs position is probably now the most important role in the club.
May as well have asked Gaz Ellis if he was interested
If you are looking for someone who is well known in the game and commands respect do you go for Ritchie Myler or someone like Gaz Ellis
I know who i would prefer but he doesnt come with a pot of money.

Seeing Andy Last's name up there reminded me of what I heard yesterday, about his son's. Apparently he has 2 son's playing at U14's level (I might have that wrong), but every SL club wants them - they are meant to be very good. However, they won't sign for a club until they are 16. Lasty has said it's up to them where they go, he will leave it to them, and if they want to come to Hull, that's fine. Apparently Leeds want to sign them now, and have offered Scholarship terms, and would only need to train once a week, but they have said no.'"
id leave it till the last minute

You are forgetting Gaz Ellis did the role already when he first retired and didn't take to it, which is why he joined the coaching staff.

| Our usual announcement time is 6pm but Myler was announced early in the day.
I wonder if this keeps the 6pm slot free for some recruitment news.
Probably not, but never know!

Yes i forgot about that but the point still stands do you go for a well known well respected ex player like Gaz Ellis or Ritchie Myler because of the pot of cash he comes with.
For Pearson he will follow the cash given his position but from a club point of view and the importance of the position it surely has to be someone in the mold of Gaz Ellis

At the moment the club need money. It's that simple. Without money we can't even afford to bring on a DOR.
Could have the best DOR in the game (which nobody probably knows who that actually is) at the club but if they've got no money to work with then they're not going to make an impact anyway. We'll I say that, but whoever is working at Salford seems to be doing well.
Seeing on Twitter that Myler apparently has a degree in Sports Management from Leeds University?
Just give the guy a chance.

| People forgetting we did the experienced route with McRae too under Pearson that wasn't the most successful tenure - some very questionable signings during that period

Was just about to post the same, we could hire the most experienced Director in the game but if there's no money to sign anyone good what would be the point?
I also think half the 'skill' in the role is having contact numbers in the phone and as a very recent player you'd hope Myler has a few.
I'm also not seeing many suggestions of better plans from those who are criticising. We can't just stumble along on a low budget, the next risk is crowds drop then literally it's a stadium with 3.5 years lease left keeping us in SL on the IMG points

Who though?
Ellis didn't enjoy the job and I don't recall a string of star British players or top Aussies queuing up to join us at that time.
Maybe just give Myler a chance as much as it goes against your instincts.

They've not got a clue. The game doesn't have an abundance of top experienced RL administrators does it. Just another excuse to whinge.
I can guarantee they'll be the first to moan about the new coaching appointment.

And if Rovers appointed him and we criticised them he would be sticking up for them and using the exact same arguments we are?

| well that was a surprise wasn't it thanks to Dan Tomlinson breaking the news 48 hours ago no one was caught out by it and the appointment is now official and although many may have reservations it is done and now we will all get behind our new Director of Rugby and wish him well and let him know we support him.
I believe that the club are a little peeved about Dans actions but he's a fan and he will always do the digging and let us have the news good or back as soon as he does and long may that continue. Good Luck Richie part of me thinks that you might need it.
