A once in a generation come back with that I can remember 3 of happening this season. (not all including Hull) and a fair few more over the past few seasons.
Perhaps Hudd's game last week was their epic once in a generation win?
Fully fit, I'd have said we would have had a better chance of beating them (saints) than at any time in the last few years, but that's probably pretty hypothetical now given Long is injured.

I haven't suggested we have. I've said that at present we are the 4th best team based on results so far. We have gained more points than either Leeds or Huddersfield. We've played 19 games out of 27, not 3 or 4. It's a fair indication.

I meant once in a generation that Saint's throw away a lead like that not that a team comes back from a big deficit, but I think you knew that.
As to the last part of your post I can see what you're saying, it's a tricky one though as in 2006 we were twice the side we are now but then Saints were a lot better than they are now too.

But a fair indication of what though? It's a cliche but no prizes get handed out at this stage of the season.

The league table (especially after almost three quarters of the season) is a fair indication of how well teams are doing. Leeds may well overtake us but so far they have lost at Wakefield and Huddersfield and been beaten at home by Rovers, Castleford and the Crusaders.

I'm really not trying to wind you up but I'm not disputing that a league table is a fair indication of 'how teams are doing' up to a particular point, hence my analogy of hull city's first half season in the prem and us winning our first five games last season... As an indication of how teams will finish though I don't think it means much at all, especially when there are playoffs involved...

| Look right now we are the 4th best side in the competition...the table does not lie
We may not finish 4th at the end of the season, but we will hopefully be in the play-offs, massive improvement on the last 2 seasons..
Personally I still think 4th is achievable depending on who Agar uses in the h/back positions....Happy with our season so far.

We have to be happy,we are stuttering at times, but still are pulling the rabbit out of the hat.As you say, after the last two seasons I am on cloud 9 to be where we are at the moment.

to me it all depends how good our form and play is going into the playoffs.
2004's a good example, we had a great season and finished 3rd but injuries hit and we limped out in round 1. Last year Catalans finished 8th and almost ended up in the grand final.
so yer happy so far, but still have concerns about what we'll do in a playoff tie (particularly without Long)

So even though we're the same team, same players, same coach (although I can dream), we'll be a worse team later in the season than we are now if we finish in a lower place?
Utter nonsense

I think you all know that Jake is implying that he does not believe that we ARE the 4th best side, despite us being 4th in the league table. I agree with him, I don't think we are the 4th best side.
That said, with a full strength side, I think we can beat anyone on our day, but can also lose to anyone as well
I'm not even saying that, I'm saying until everyone has played everyone else home and away the league table isn't necessary an exact reflection of how strong each team is. Certainly at this stage it will be a reasonable approximation, but isn't exact.

well said lyn,i put this on another thread but nobody picked up on it.
im on hols in benidorm atm and i missed the game on friday night so i cant comment on it,by all accounts it was sh-te, ill post my thoughts in general tho, terrrible news on longy but im sure we will get by without him as we did earlier in the season,im still as positive as when i started the other thread,i agree we are not playing great rugby every week but name a team who is?ill spell things out were i see it from.
negatives
we have lost to crusaders who are doing very well for a new team,ok we would of expected to of beat them but they have beat bulls, leeds and have run other teams close so was that realy a bad result away from home?
lost to salford, ill not comment on that game cos we should of beaten them hands down, but on the daythey wanted it more.
lost to quins,same as above
lost to wire, top two in the league and tbh i thought we played very well and had a chance of beating them.
lost to leeds, very good team as we all know,ok they not on top of there game this year but we `played them when they had hit a good run of form.
lost to wigan, they just ripped us to threads, end of story.
lost to hudd, thought the game was there for the taking we played decent rugby to go 18-0 up then we just let them back into it and caved in,still hudds are a very good team who finished pretty high up in the table last year and are up they again.
lost to leeds in cup game, was it realy a bad result the way leeds played?not as if we were playing dockers or someone like that was it.
i maybe missed a defeat or two out but are these defeats realy that bad?
positives
after the last 2 seasons we have had and we are 4th in the league and some people are still not happy,we have beaten sts home and away.the last team to do that was 20 years ago,we played very well in both of them,ok the home game we was poor in 1st half but to come back from that was something special,we have played some good rugby this year also some dumb rugby,we still havent it nowhere near top gear yet, like i said im on my hols and people still text me to say agar out got one text saying hul won 10-8 longy suspected broken arm, players seem to of realised they want agar out now which can only be a good thing, and thats a fan of over 30 years ,
I seriously believe some people need a reality check,4th in the league 3 points clear of leeds who have wire to play today and saints next week, cant see them getting much out of them 2 games, also cant see us finishing lower then 5th,WHAT DO SOME PEOPLE ACTUALY CALL IMPROVEMENT???
ANYWAY IM GANNING BACK TO MY SUN BED
wake up people and keep cheering on the boys, come on you hulllllllllllllllllllllll
