well said that man, when a mistake is made that results in a try against you dont see players pointing fingers and slagging each other off, they go over and give the man concerned encouragement .
Points against are collective errors not individual errors and many forget that. the greatest players we have seen grace our hallowed turf missed tackles got handed off and run over on ocassions Norton,, Topliss, Sterling, Crane, Kemble , Tindall and stone included .. no one is perfect thats why its called sport because the outcome is never certain..
One day Whiting is solid the next he makes a mistake and CH is still to blame.. Yet Craig didnt blame Rich did he??

As you mention those two, neither have exactly gone on to prove it was a mistake letting them go.

| Quote: Kosh "You may not consider championship standard to be an insult. Others clearly do and use the term in that manner. From what I've seen of most championship backs Hall is clearly of a higher overall standard, and his scoring return against SL defences tends to back that up. '"
I don't think he is of a higher standard overall. He shows glimpses of brilliant attacking play and then follows it with something ridiculous. In attack he needs to be more consistent to make a useful SL player, and his defence is a long way off.
Quote: Kosh "His defence is a concern because after an improvement it seems to have dipped back again and he's making the same mistakes. How much of that is down to an inability or unwillingness to learn I have no idea, hence I am not about to judge that under no circumstances will it ever improve. Such certainty seems misplaced IMO.'"
I don't really believe it ever has improved. Not significantly, anyway. Of course I can't be 100% certain that he'll never be up to the required standard either, but it seems unlikely (to me).
Quote: Kosh "I'd like to see him stay, knuckle down, and develop into the player he has the potential to be. I realise that he's failed to do that since his debut with us (although I think there has been some small improvement) but there have been some extenuating circumstances. However, as I've said elsewhere, I think he may be better served starting somewhere else with a clean slate in a different and possibly more settled setup.'"
I'd like to see him find his level and do well at it. I don't think that's at a SL club, or at least not one that hopes to finish in the top 4. I wish him no ill and I genuinely don't think it's an insult to say he's championship standard. I'd love to be that good.

| I'm generally upbeat about our players and look for the positives. I don't really rate Radford, for example, but can see his value in situations like the closing moments of last weeks's game. Hall, however, does my head in. I've seen him play in a lot of games and just don't get the "future international/best centre in the city" hype. He is elusive with ball in hand and has a great body swerve but is not great in defence and a penchant for chucking the ball out inexplicably either into touch or just forward.
We need to strengthen in the backs and retaining Hall when we already have Tansey, Briscoe, Whiting. Turner and Yeaman signed up won't help that IMO. If I'm misjudging his abilities to the extent some are claiming (very happy to admit when I've got it wrong - see Moa) I await Wigan, Leeds, Warrington and Saints coming to call for him in September.

Good post.
He's on a parallel with Welham in that they are of similar age and in the same position.
The difference is Welham has had an unbroken run at centre even when people were calling for change because of his defence. However Morgan has stuck with him and he is now on the team sheet if fit. Yes he's top for missed tackles but he has obviously been coached to jump out of the line to disrupt the attacking line. Even if he misses the attack usually fragments or changes. But now and again like last Sunday it comes off. Thomas Bosc was in la la land when he was hit by Welham and he was mobbed by teammates for the hit he made.
He may feel a tit for missing so many but when one big one comes off and teammates are cock-o-hoop the confidence and well being from that must be fantastic.
Maybe Hall just needs a run without the risk of being dropped and feels appreciated by coach and team mates. Still think he could be a great centre if given the chance.

| Quote: fcandy "The fact that when Craig Hall was dropped from the team we have shown some consistent form is no coincidence. I don't think I’ve seen a much worse defender in the black and white for a very long time! Also he is not that great in attack, he drops the ball a lot and his passing and handling skills in general are poor for a super league player. He is ok at finding a gap and ghosting through it but not that amazing. As soon as he makes one mistake his head goes and that’s game over for rest of game. I think mental toughness is perhaps his biggest weakness. I hope he leaves at the end of his contract for the benefit of both him and Hull FC.'"

| Played well tonight, only a couple of dodgy jump outs from defence but a much better outing from Hall.

| Ive been saying for as long as i can remember that he looks more comfortable on the left hand side of the pitch.
What do people think about turning Hally into a winger and letting Briscoe play centre?

| Hall had the best game he's had for a while tonight, still suspect defensively,( and i do admit to closing my eyes rather than watch him, on occasions!!) but credit where its due, he had a good game, and i think hes worth another year, ball in hand hes an exciting player, think hes worth another shot!
