| Quote: thehullwhitestar "My opinion of him hasn't changed either. I'm sure he was a nice guy with good intentions but he took us backwards with breakneck speed.
He is the one that retained the likes of Radford, Dowes, Yeaman, Lee, G Horne etc.. and he also signed Maiava, Sing, Byrne, Cusack, Dykes and left us with a "signed up squad" that no self-respecting coach would ever want !! He is also the one that showed the door to McMenemy, Briscoe, Brough without a second thought.
Anyone who has fond memories of PS has a very short memory !!'"
My fond memory of him was watching him lead the team out at Old Trafford.
Briscoe - agree that was a mistake although not sure whether it was him or the board setting the contract value. He should have remained at FB and there would have been no need for Byrne as Tony was doing that job fine.
Maiava - failed project terrible signing.
Cusack is a good forward with a highly professional attitude.
Dykes got Hull to Wembley last year (bet you were in the queue for tickets). Excellent player but a panic signing after the Plummer/Cooke debacle.
Sing was our top try scorer in his first year despite poor service (see loss of Cooke).
McMenemy was released because his shoulder couldn’t stand the rigours of SL.
Brough was allegedly ill disciplined off the field – a point proven at Wakefield only recently.
Biggest things that cost Sharpy his job were shambolic injury problems and the loss of Cooke neither of which were under his control. Not the best coach I’m sure but better than Agar in my view. He should have been given more time and support. Looks like the Board have realised that error and are now giving Agar the benefit of the doubt and some real backing where recruitment/retention is concerned. They are one coach too late in my opinion. That should have been done for Peter Sharp. Had he failed with that backing in place then he then should have been shown the door. Agar the same now.

You can think what you want but you are totally wrong !!!
Briscoe - He'd already pushed him out of the squad and made it quite clear that he didn't rate him before the contract talks, big big mistake.
Maiava - Only a clown could possibly watch him play then give him a deal like we did. Poor doesn't sum it up.
Cusack - Absolutely the opposite of what we needed at the time in our pack. Panic/poor signing and a waste of a quota spot.
Dykes - A player who everyone on both sides of the world knew was finished and couldn't even pull his shorts up without needing time on the treatment table. Total pi$$ take signing.
Sing - Probably the most disappointing "high profile" signing that we have ever made. An old man with zero pace and a two year pension plan from Hull. Big waste of money and quota spot.
McMenemy - one of the best all-round second rowers we've had in the SL era and that clown showed him the door almost within minutes of sitting at his desk. Nothing to do with his shoulder. The clown made it quite clear to him that he didn't rate him and that he had no future at Hull. McMenemy fought all year for a contract which was typical of the total professional that he was, then got unlucky with his shoulder.
Brough - Also shown the door in no time whatsoever. I don't think that he was the answer at SH but he was shipped out and never replaced, unless you count an old past-it Aussie who was made of biscuit.
You can smooth over the facts all you like and, like you just have in part, make it up as you go along, but that guy took us so far backwards in such a short space of time that it was an achievement in itself !! He took a very good squad which needed a little tweak here and there and he totally fooked it up !!! He was the wrong man in the wrong place at the wrong time and we are still paying for his brief but very damaging tenure.

| Rule is just a toothless mouthpiece for Kath, she is the one who pulls the strings and decides who stays and goes not Rule.

| Sharp was a better option of two average coaches. Agars inability to muster anything with this team makes Sharp look a world beater.

I agree !! I'm not, in any way, defending Agar. I think he is out of his depth but no more than PS clearly was.
PS totally fooked us and left us with a signed up squad capable of winning nothing.
On the other hand, Agar seems to be able to take that average squad and get the very least out of each individual within it.

The poster has made some valid points to be honest and Sharp came in and had to endure a horrid time player wise.......Cooke legged it.....not his fault.
Thackery gate........not his fault.
Brough liking the beer and doing a joke that Backfired.....Doing his job.
Kings antics........Board not backing Sharp up when he wanted rid...not his fault.
Had the backing of the players he had left.....he knew we had a massive problem with S/H and brought Head in for a short stint and Dykes, when fit was clearly a class act,but his injuries caught up with him.....Agar signs Thorman who couldnt lace Head/Dykes boots.
Maiva was a disaster and Briscoe...depends which story you believe.
Player recruitment was poor but was he working with what the board would pay out and had to get the players he did.....i would have liked to have seen him with the recruitment we have for 2010 and he also brought the youth along as well.

Yet it still managed to get to contest 1 of the only 2 trophys you can win.
Out of the 3 coaches since Bomber left...Sharp was the unlukiest to get the boot and was the ONLY coach to have the dressing room and respect of the players and he was a damn sight better talker than Agar....his humour was spot on.
