Quote: ICECREAMMAN "And the correct way to handle it for the lad too, he has to be made fully aware in the cold light of day what the issue is which will of course clearly define for his legal people who will be with him at the time , hopefully this will allow him to move on with his life and sort his head out however anyone who has ever had any dealing with anyone who has the drink disease will know that without intense medical help it is almost as impossible to kick as is drug addiction and without that help he will simply spiral out of control ... which i am sure no one wants...

I am expecting him to leave the club very shortly and was in fact at the club today with his team for a discussion..

albeit if he does leave i will not be happy either for the lad or for the club however the club are a sporting company not a councelling outlet for AA..
I would say to all those though that are bagging the lad all too easily that they should look back to the Legends that graced black and white in the past as many will know for sure that we had one or two absolute legends who had much bigger issues than Drinking!!!

I suppose I am saying i take no joy out of seeing a fine young players life and career destroyed by something he possibly cannot right now control himself.. i know i am harping but i feel desperately sad for the boy and wish i was better placed to help him sort this ..'"

Are you saying he is an alcoholic then, rather than your average kid in his early 20's who goes out and gets lashed 3 or 4 times a week?

I don't. It won't do him any good in the long run knowing he got away with it again. Hopefully sacking him may be the wake up call he needs

Fair enough Paul, but how would you feel if he let's every-one down in a C/Cup draw or similar, because he has not learnt his lesson the last 3 times has he.

Yeah I accept that it comes with a risk but if sack him now we are short for the whole season and not just for that one game you mention. I personally would have given him one more shot but I can see why would choose not to.

I doubt Tansey is an alcoholic, I think you're right, he's just "an average lad", certainly if he is battling alcoholism at such a young age then something has gone seriously wrong in his life.

I don't want to see him remain at the club, it sends the wrong message out, the only way I think he should stay is if we cannot dismiss him legally, on the back of that someone should lose their job for not constructing contracts correctly.

Who knows it might have done? Either way it leaves us even further short which would have swayed my decision to keep him tbh.

He's already let us down in the most important game of last season. And has repeated it almost immediately at the start of this, get rid and forget about him.

Fair enough, I would sack him without a moments hesitation, he was told in no uncertain terms last time, and it was well documented in the press, one would have thought he maybe slightly humiliated knowing all us fans knew and he woiuld work hard to make amends, yet it has fallen on deaf ears.

I don't believe for a second he's an alcoholic, he's just an idiot who can't appreciate what a fortunate position he's in

Quote: Dibs XIII "You're quite correct Karen, I had to sack someone within their 6 month probationary period and the amount of evidence you have to supply to justify your reason is unbelievable!!'"

The secret to managing poor performance or people with disciplinary problems is to have the correct meetings along the way and gather the evidence as you go. That way when the individual commits the 3rd offence you literally can sack them straight away and it does not take two weeks. Ultimately if FC have warned Tansey twice i would expect them to have the detailed notes as records of each meeting, the evidence that was presented at each meeting and the agreed way forward signed by Tansey.

At a 3rd indiscretion the only new bit to gather is the evidence of this disciplinary incident which presumably FC have to suspend him in the 1st place.

In all of this what angers me the most is Tansey's stupidity. He is a fine player and was arguably our best attacking weapon last year, Whiting is a good fullback but does not have the same edge as Tansey. Now we face losing him completely and another club picking him up for very little where he could go on to be a great success.

It's a real shame as I think we will really miss him.
