Quote Father Ted="Father Ted"As a Wigan fan reading this I think it's fair to point out a few things.
First you had a very good win last week against your biggest rivals whereas Wigan were beaten by the 2nd club in the league.
2nd, Wigan's coach has gone to Aus for family reasons and Shaun Wane took over. He went with a different squad selection than McGuire.MM would not have picked Feka he would have gone with three props instead.
3rd Wane would not go away from home anywhere without four props being an ex prop himself.
4th Wane knew his pack with four props would get the better of the Hull forwards. That plan came off! He then put Deacon at 6 who he knew could dominate the game with his passing and kicking game being behind a winning pack. Which came off! S Tomkins went to fb to add pace to an already fast set of backs. That worked too.
5th Wane also had players injured. Phelps, Roberts, McIlorum, O'Carroll, Bailey & Mossop.
Hull though didn't help themselves.
Hall had a nightmare.
Tansey ditto!
The pack tried hard but don't have the game plan or technique Wigan now have under McGuire.
The Hull pack was beaten and therefore your halves hadn't a prayer and were not seen. Wigan had the measure of Houghton where HKR didn't.
You need a new coach! A bit of luck with injuries.
What worries me though is that your juniors who come through don't improve.
Is Horne any better than 10 years ago?
Wheeldon has gone.
Washbrook, Yeaman, etc don't seem to improve at all.
Briscoe is the only one who is improving season on season.
I do think you need technical skills coaches for your first team and U age teams.
You also need a new BOD. This lot are clueless.
You could be one of the best in SL and challenge for everything every year if you had top class management.
At Wigan we did nothing apart from a CC win in 2002 under Dave Whelan's management in 12 years.
Ian Lenagan took over for the start of the 2008 season, made the changes needed and this year 2010 we could finish top of the league with a bit of luck.
It doesn't take long to turn things around when you have good management.
You don't have it.
Your BOD are dreadful and it is they who need to be changed before your club can hit the heights.
You are a great club with tremendous support and a youth system with real quality youngsters. Your BOD should have a better coach and squad than you have and by some measure too.
Sorry for going on but RL needs a really strong HullFC.'"
Asolutly right fella, the talk for long enough has been about the seemingly lack of foresight our board has. We can't do a lot about this until some arab sheik appears from somewhere and buys us out, but your other comments are just what the majority have been saying for long enough.
Since our Grand Final appearance in 2006 we have failed miserably where we should have 'kicked-on'.
We have appointed wrong coaches as a cheap option.
Agar is a good assistant but not ready for a first team job.
The board have made stupid mistakes and just let the club drift, pacifying the fans with so-called big signings to keep us sweet (some have been good however but just sweeteners.)
Your views on our tactics are spot on, we rarely get the balance right taking aside injuries.
The young guns have in general not progressed and Yeaman has been stifled through the lack of no half backs, in my view he is still a class act but not used.
A lack of foresight again with no back-up plan for Long, he was never going to play many games and when he does he plays catch up for match fitness then is injured again. Not his fault, but a fact that has not been confronted prior to the season.
You lot seem to have got the formula right and with the will to do the same we could be right where you are now. Thanks for your comments
