Quote PAUL M="PAUL M"A couple of Hull players apparently talked about us being in for a kiwi, Locke. That was a while back, heard it could be Leeds also who are in for him. Probably rubbish.'"
No chance of Locke coming over. Contracted until the end of next season and is in the NZ setup.
I'm not sure about whether McDonnell is the player that I would want at Fullback if we're wanting to push up the league. I'd prefer Horne to him, although there are doubts over Horne's fitness.
I liked Phelps when he was playing for us but he was deemed not good enough. Thing is, I don't think McDonnell is all that much better than Phelps so is he worth signing.
Then again, you can't sign star quality in every position in the same offseason.
I think that Holdsworth and Brough would be a very strong halfback combination, as would Chase and Brough. I wouldn't be as keen on Chase and Holdsworth together as neither are usually first receivers. My personal preference out of the 3 combinations is Holdsworth and Brough.
I think that there's a good chance of us getting Brough, tbh, but we'd have to pay a fee. Things don't seem quite right at Hudds at the moment and so he may be tempted by a move.
A couple of weeks ago I would have said that there would be no chance of Salford letting both Smith and Holdsworth go at the same time, but if the thread on the VT about their financial issues has any substance then they may be swayed by a fee for him.
It's all well and good for us talking about the halfbacks but we need to assert equal priority to the signing of 2 quality props. So far we only have Lynch, Watts and Bowden signed up for next season so a lot of work needs to go into this area.
