Widdop would be completely the wrong player. At present he is a decent/average player, but not one that can really change a game.

Hull need a proven player, who is capable of producing a bit of magic. At the moment Sammut or Chase are the only credible targets that fit that bill IMO.

I reckon Hull will have to tread very carefully before bringing someone else in (unless it's already been covered by their severance approach with Tansey). If Tansey has been sacked and they bring someone in immediately afterwards into the same position it might be suggested that Hull have known for some time what they intended to do and, therefore, that might be construed as constructive dismissal - particularly if they can prove that the discussions with the new signing started before the hearing.
